At Olivier’s Table, Pierre is in the kitchen, while his partner, Fanny, a talented pastry chef, oversees the front-of-house. Normandy-born Pierre has enthusiastically embraced Corrèze, his land of adoption, in this town centre stone house, whose modern furnishings and designer lighting are the epitome of elegant. The repertory, in tune with the zeitgeist and at bargain prices, ticks all the boxes: enticing, polished and colourful. The fine dining restaurant is perfectly in keeping with the rest of the manor. In the lovely dining area with its exposed stone walls and imposing fireplace, diners enjoy sophisticated, imaginative cuisine. On sunny days, make a beeline for the pergola by the mill stream!

An old café in the heart of this pretty village has been turned into a contemporary bistro by the Dutch duo of chef Tom Houdijk and cordial front-of-house manager Sarah van Baardewijk. The bistro vibe (banquettes, long tables, small bar) is in keeping with the menu, in which bistro classics – think beef tartare, sea bass fillet and crème brûlée – get a fresh and precise makeover. Colourful dishes, perfect cooking and meticulous details: a charming and welcoming establishment.

On the main road to Brive-la-Gaillarde, you are bound to notice this Corrèze-style building with its characteristic local stone walls and slate roof. You will immediately feel at home inside, thanks to the soothing decor (wooden floors, oak tables, leather- and fabric-upholstered seating) and the beaming smile of the laid-back chef. He cooks by instinct, devising blind menus out of locally sourced ingredients. His delicious dishes, such as Limousin veal belly, smoked beetroot, carrot ketchup and mashed parsnips, lack neither colour nor precision.

In the Périgord Noir, this restaurant is housed in a 17C mansion which boasts a courtyard, bliss for alfresco dining by candlelight, and lounges whose stone walls bear witness to their long history. It is a pleasure to catch up with Nick Honeyman, chef of Le Petit Léon. His creative cuisine is renowned for its fresh, distinctive flavours, particularly those of citrus fruits, which he uses to excellent effect in menus that mingle local and globetrotting influences.

Since undergoing a complete refurbishment following a fire, the interior of this refined restaurant displays a degree of Scandinavian flair. The dishes are all about finesse and mouth-watering flavours: eg the soft and tender skate wing accompanied by delicious home-made gnocchi flavoured with lemon and flat parsley, enhanced by a delicious sweet and sour sauce. Everything is well executed – compliments to the chef!

In this country house that is typical of the area, chef Nicolas Laval, himself a local man (from Corrèze), has opted for a pared-back contemporary interior decor in a palette of light wood, blue and white, in a nod to the maritime world he so loves. Examples of his dishes include shredded beef cheek, parsnip mousseline, red wine reduction, tarragon; line-caught hake, cauliflower, orange gremolata, grapefruit, citrus vinaigrette. It's pretty creative cuisine, always skilfully executed and the chef's attention to every little detail hits the spot with diners!
