Greisslerei beim Taubenkobel
French Contemporary, Regional Cuisine · ★★ Michelin

Barbara Eselböck and Alain Weissgerber offer a delightful alternative to Taubenkobel restaurant with this charming eatery located in the adjacent building. The atmosphere is friendly, relaxed and completely unpretentious, and the food is simply delicious. Select ingredients go into flavoursome dishes such as Alsace-style snails, Wiener schnitzel and gnocchi with fresh truffles. The interior is wonderfully cosy and has a vintage feel to it, with charming decorative touches and shelves displaying house-made and Pannonian food items, as well as regional wines. By the entrance, there is a counter

This haven of culinary delights is housed in a former brickworks. The design of the interior purposefully drew on and preserved long-standing structures such as brick and quarry stone masonry, combining them with sleek, modern elements. A restored old oven makes for an eye-catching feature. Large windows allow the light to flood in while affording diners views of their surroundings. In summer, you can sit in the glorious beer garden. Owner Werner Tschiedel channels the spirit of a modern inn, serving flavourful, straightforward and strictly regional cuisine, such as greaves dumplings, warm cab

Gasthof OHR

Johannes Ohr represents the third generation of his family to take the helm of this traditional hotel and restaurant. The food tends towards the regional and seasonal, but the occasional subtle international accent can also be detected. A fine example of the excellent quality of the ingredients is the "whole golden trout from Radlberg natural fish farm with fresh vegetables, potatoes from St Martin market and herb butter". The Rostbraten – roast prime rib of Austrian Salon beef with fried onions and gravy, roast potatoes and gherkins) – is also tempting. The terrace occupies a nice spot in the

The new project by Barbara Eselböck and Alain Weissgerber is not far from their other restaurant, Taubenkobel. The traditional character of this long-established inn has been deliberately preserved – the food being no exception. The handwritten menu includes dishes such as Tafelspitz, goulash and cordon bleu, not to mention the fantastic apricot dumplings! Although down-to-earth, the dishes impress with the high standards in terms of quality and craftsmanship ensured by Karlheinz Ruttmann. Previously chef at Freisinger Hof in Munich, he is a long-time friend of Alain Weissgerber and they worke

The name "Fossil" was not simply plucked out of thin air: This restaurant is actually located in a Muschelkalk limestone wine cellar dating back to 1870. At the entrance on the historical Kellerplatz, you are greeted by a plant-filled Mediterranean-style terrace. Then take just a few steps down, walk past the open kitchen and into the bright and imposing barrel vault, which makes for an enchanting setting. Chef-patron Thomas Daniel Pugel has been cooking here since 2015. Between noon and 9pm, he serves up regional and seasonal cuisine that is rooted in Austrian tradition yet incorporates moder

Incorporated into the Bio-Landgut Esterhazy, an estate with its own farm, this restaurant has a laser-like focus on regional and seasonal ingredients. Local produce, some of it organic, is used in pleasingly uncomplicated yet sophisticated dishes, for example wild cheese sausage, baked schnitzel, organic Angus beef steak and venison carpaccio. In addition to the well-curated à la carte menu, a five-course set menu (dubbed "Hofmenü") is available on Fri and Sat evenings. Tables are arranged in a converted stable that has been beautifully modernised – the ceiling with beams is lovely. The terrac

A thoroughly enchanting establishment! In a 16C townhouse in the heart of the city, dedicated hosts Susanne and Michael Pilz have created a cosy restaurant featuring beautiful vaulted ceilings and a truly idyllic outdoor dining area with trees, grapevines, shrubs and herbs. The chef-patron crafts regional and seasonal dishes with modern influences (think veal lights with brioche dumplings or sea bass with melted tomatoes and saffron gnocchi), the lady of the house expertly directs the service with warm hospitality. In addition to the restaurant, they operate café-bar 10 B, located on Rathauspl

This lovingly restored 16C farmhouse first became an inn in 1860. The bright, welcoming and modern interior tastefully combines historical elements and decorative art. Tables on the courtyard terrace, shaded by trees and shrubs, are also popular. The kitchen team keeps things seasonal and regional – honest food plain and simple. There are two set menus to choose from, but you can also mix and match à la carte. Renowned for its offal dishes, the restaurant also serves unconventional specialities such as beaver meat, horse tongue or pig's ear, along with the signature "poularde en vessie" (chick
