Mor Mu Dong takes its name from its owner, Mor, and the Mu Dong Canal, where it is located. Nestled in a mangrove forest, it is housed in a set of rustic pavilions where diners can enjoy seafood and take in the views that change with the tide. In the open kitchen, tanks of live seafood affirm the freshness of the food. Order 3–4 vibrant dishes to share and enjoy the Southern Thai flavours bursting from them.

Customers with a sweet tooth and fans of deep-fried goodness line up here from 6am to get their daily fix. The deep-fried Patongko (dough sticks) and salapao are freshly prepared; the crunchy fries are golden-brown. It’s all very tasty; even without the dipping sauces.

The deep-fried meatballs, made to a family recipe, are a great start to the meal and go well with the fresh fish menu, which is cooked in a traditional Phuket style.

The constantly busy Go Benz has been serving popular dishes, including their speciality pork with peppery broth and rolled rice noodles, for over 20 years – and it’s easy to see why it’s quite such a popular spot. Many of the dishes often sell out, like the fragrant dry boiled rice with crispy pork and tender pork offal. Also well worth ordering is the crispy pork with sweet soy sauce, which is seasoned wonderfully and has a lovely charcoal-grilled crust.

Southern Thai soul surges through this gallery-like space, its wooden tables framed by soft light and glinting ranks of Buddha images and Luang Pu Thuat amulets. House-made curry pastes drive dishes that roar with the spicy and mildly sour hallmarks of the South. Highlights include yellow curry, fresh herb salads and crisp local fish draped in pungent budu sauce.
