Somni

Contemporary, Spanish · ★★★ Michelin

$$$$

Chef Aitor Zabala and his dedicated team have awakened Somni, Catalan for "dream," from a long sleep and have fashioned this revamped iteration as a distinctly personal and unique dining experience. Tucked away just off Santa Monica Avenue, the dining room's soothing, creamy palette with light wood and glass is marked by a colorful bull's head from the original spot, hinting at the Spanish-inflected cuisine. A procession of small bites is meticulously arranged and endlessly creative, sating diners with an abundance of rich flavors and textural interplay (think mussel escabeche, gazpacho, or th

Nozawa Bar

Japanese, Sushi · ★ Michelin

$$$$

Nozawa Bar is secreted away in the back of the Beverly Hills location of Sugarfish, yet this jewel box is entirely independent of the local chain it's housed within. Omakase is the sole dining option here, served as multiple courses of nigiri along with some sashimi and handrolls. Each sequence centers on exceptional seafood, most of it sourced from local waters. The menu features both tradition and novelty. Start with the perfectly crunchy jellyfish dressed with ponzu. This might be followed by an impressive presentation of deliciously tender slivered octopus. Sushi highlights include the del

Ardor

Californian, Mediterranean Cuisine

$$$

If a luxury spa ran a restaurant, it would probably look something like Ardor. Cushy white velvet and leather booths, white and beige staff uniforms, and enough verdant greenery to rival a small forest match the equally chic aesthetic at its parent venue, the West Hollywood EDITION hotel. The prices are high too, not that any hotel guests would even notice. But know that there is plenty of substance and care packed onto this vegetable-forward menu. Tandoor carrots with hummus and paprika vinaigrette or grilled dukkah-crusted ahi tuna with yogurt make for satisfying, clean eating. Dry-aged lamb

Funke

$$$$

Chef Evan Funke, who also runs Felix and Mother Wolf, is at it again with this eponymous restaurant. Set in a three-story 1930s art deco building, it's a stunning tribute to Italian cooking, with handmade pasta taking center stage (there's even a glassed-in room to watch them at work). Tall ceilings, red leather booths, and stone tables with brown leather/suede chairs set a stunning tone for a menu that pulls from their sister restaurants while remaining true to itself. Start with their pillowy focaccia, then savor a plate of tender South Pacific blue prawns in a garlicky salsa verde. Handmade

Japanese, Sukiyaki

$$$$

Few restaurants place such an emphasis on both sukiyaki and shabu-shabu as this classic-meets-contemporary retreat, where premium A5 Wagyu beef reigns supreme. Glass and blonde wood panels lend a cool and airy vibe; while floor tiles, ambient lighting, and custom bamboo blinds make things specially intimate.Inside, tables are outfitted with a conventional grill for cooking. Your meal may begin with such cold bites as arugula and spinach ohitashi with lobster or a shiso-infused vichyssoise. Diners may then go for the traditional, special, or à la carte sukiyaki, complete with an appetizer, unab

Tempura Endo

Japanese, Tempura

$$$$

There are few restaurants in the country dedicated solely to tempura, a Japanese style of cooking that is so much more than just “frying.” Tempura Endo in Beverly Hills is one such rare breed. Though there are tables woven throughout the restaurant, aim for a seat at the counter in front of the handmade copper cauldron. The tasting menus are on the pricey side, but such is the cost for a parade of vegetables and seafood dipped and fried delicately and served one at a time by the chef himself. Ribs of sweet corn, scallops from Hokkaido, broccolini, and snapper wrapped in shiso are all carefully

Miura

Sushi, Japanese

$$$$

Miura ushers in a reinvention and a fresh start for an address long revered as a destination for outstanding sushi. Its second floor perch set among the pedestrian-only Two Rodeo Drive shopping galleria, is a soothing and serene room with a satin-smooth wood counter. One's attention is squarely on the personable American-born Chef Derek Wilcox, who has trained extensively in Japan and worked in New York City. His attention to detail and level of refinement is evident throughout the omakase, as he grills snow crab over charcoal, and lightly smokes wild bluefin tuna over rice straw. The nigiri i

Greek, Seafood

$$$$

The laid-back luxury of the Greek islands has arrived, thanks to this cavernous beauty that has stolen the hearts of all and sundry. There's a breezy elegance inside; add on a menu of clean and classic flavors and you’ll instantly get the drift. Pull up a chair and be greeted by olives, radishes, and hummus to snack on while perusing the menu. Seafood is supreme, although the Greek salad keeps its promise of crunch and punch. Diners may then select their "catch" and have it cooked to specification—behold the wonderfully crisp and fleshy St. Pierre (John Dory). Tuna sashimi is a bliss-filled bi
