Yanyalı Fehmi Lokantası

Located in the heart of Istanbul's bustling old quarter, this establishment invites you to enter a slice of living history. Since opening its doors in 1919, the restaurant has remained a family affair, currently run by the third generation. The interior exudes timeless nostalgic charm with its elegant woodwork and Chesterfield banquettes. Watch the pastry chefs at work in the front section (takeaway available), then peruse the wide range of traditional treats in the display counter. You could start with the slow-cooked aubergine with minced lamb and cheesy béchamel sauce, follow that with the

Parvus Kalamış

Parvus Kalamış is a modest little establishment with just a handful of tables that see a steady stream of diners throughout the day. The chefs describe their cuisine as simple and delicious, and we can only agree. Think ravioli generously stuffed with ricotta and broccoli, bathed in a sage-infused butter sauce, or perfectly medium-rare lamb fillet served with bulgur risotto and carrot purée laced with Middle Eastern spices. This fusion of Turkish and Mediterranean culinary traditions delivers deep, indulgent flavours that are nothing short of irresistible. Beyond the extensive à la carte selec

Press the buzzer and enter this animated three-storey establishment where the effervescent spirit of the bohemian Moda neighbourhood truly comes to life. As the name suggests, this restaurant serves up a taste of Italy. The dishes are not unnecessarily complicated, but they have that je-ne-sais-quoi that makes Mediterranean cuisine so beloved. The menu features options such as beef cheeks braised in red wine and served with truffle purée or pappardelle with rabbit ragù. And let's be honest: who can resist a good old classic like tiramisu to cap it all off?

Basta Neo Bistro
European Contemporary
₺₺
Kaan Sakarya and Derin Aribaş honed their skills in top-flight European restaurants before opening this lively bistro. A seat at the counter offers the best view of how they blend European and Turkish traditions with a street-food twist. Their seasonal, market-fresh cuisine is beautifully showcased in the sweet brioche filled with tomato jam, onion and stracciatella. The pan con tomate with perfectly salted anchovies is simply irresistible. The appealing menu demonstrates the chefs' knack for infusing every dish with personality.

In summer, Giritli welcomes you to its atmospheric terrace, where the kitchen is also located. If the weather lets you down, you can always cross the street to the romantic Mediterranean-style sister restaurant. Be sure to explore the enticing mezze set menu (drinks included), which inventively showcases the traditional flavours of Crete. The perfectly seasoned and generously portioned dishes feature impeccably fresh produce. Think marinated sea bass with fresh herbs, or potato salad with a judicious touch of vinegar and vibrant tzatziki. A real feast!

Even before you walk into this colourful establishment, the ornate exterior hints that nature is celebrated at Telezzüz. The location, in a sports complex, is also rather unique. The restaurant clearly prioritises sustainable practices such as local sourcing, a zero-waste approach and plant-forward cooking. The chefs are creative in crafting delicious vegan dishes. Think mushroom ceviche, or deep-fried artichoke with a rich mushroom ketchup, a sweet plum and chilli sauce, olive oil mayonnaise and crunchy vegetables. And what better than a refreshing cocktail to accompany such deliciously natur

Khorasani
Traditional Cuisine, Grills
₺₺
The Sultanahmet neighbourhood is known for all its tourist restaurants, where menus consist of photographs of dishes. In that respect it's no different at the rustic-style Khorasani, but what sets this grill restaurant apart is the chef's dedication to quality. The meat, barbecued to order, and the kebabs are second to none. We thoroughly enjoyed the kebab with succulent lamb, crisp vegetables and, of course, the wonderful pita bread that comes with it. For flavoursome food with no nonsense, Khorasani is the place.

Deraliye

Deraliye is a landmark of the historical Sultanahmet neighbourhood, where there is one tourist restaurant next to the other. The colourful, opulent decor immediately catches the eye and, like the cuisine, is a tribute to the Ottoman Empire. The extensive menu features an array of dishes devised for sharing and specialities such as mezze, barbecued offerings and kebabs. Tempting options include duck stew in filo pastry with fragrant spiced rice, or a lamb and tomato dish, slowly simmered in an earthenware pot to let the flavours meld. Here, you can savour sumptuous Ottoman cuisine, occasionally
