Set into the hillside, this attractive country house was built for a Lancashire industrialist around 1860 and is surrounded by beautiful terraced gardens and woodland. Its original features include a wood-panelled former billiards room, which now acts as the drawing room; follow this through into the restaurant, where you'll find the best seats are in the conservatory. The cooking's strength is drawn from the prime quality produce, be that Cornish monkfish or naturally delicious fruits for dessert. Stay overnight to make a proper occasion of your visit.
