La Casa de Manolo Franco

The eponymous owner-chef, who amazed everyone by leaving the world of Formula 1 racing (in which he worked as a journalist) to return to his roots and take over the former family bar, demonstrates ambition, excellent technique and a strong desire to surprise. In this attractive restaurant, with its playful mix of the rustic and modern, Manu Franco focuses on the flavours of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains, locally sourced meat, aromatic plants (such as thyme and lavender) that he and his team pick every week, and vegetables, all of which are showcased on a tasting menu entitled, called Capri

This restaurant, located at the entrance to the Monte Alina residential area, surprises with a new format after its relocation from Illescas (Toledo). While the upper floor features the gastronomic space itself, with its meticulous layout and open kitchen, the lower floor and terrace are home to another establishment (Aleño Brassafina) that follows the same theme but with a much more modest and informal approach. The tandem of chefs at the helm, Víctor Infantes and Saúl González, continue to extol the virtues of this contemporary La Mancha cuisine of grilled meats and marinades that has won th

Although located a little away from the heart of the city, this small chalet on the banks of the Manzanares has everything it needs to win over its guests, including an open kitchen at the entrance, small inter-connecting dining rooms, and a wine cellar and chillout lounge upstairs. Via dishes such as Red Mullet Amazake, Sumiyaki Eel, Koshihikari Rice, Button Mushroom... Chef Jorge Muñoz proves that his time working at leading restaurants such as Mugaritz has been well spent. This modern proposal, never shying away from incorporating some details from international cuisine, is subject to a sho

A restaurant that pays full homage to its ingredients, the sea and the lasting legacy of La Coruña’s fishing tradition. This spacious and somewhat surprising eatery, occupying a former industrial workshop once used to manufacture electrical coil pumps, features various event spaces plus an interior patio on which to enjoy a post-lunch or -dinner digestif or coffee. As you would expect, the cooking is centred around its impressive fish and seafood which is shown to guests at the same time as the menu. Choose between four options (each with a set main course that changes daily, plus a choice of

Your imagination will carry you back in time in this charming restaurant, located in the centre of Hoyo de Manzanares just a few steps from the Plaza Mayor, where it recreates the ambience of an old railway station complete with beautiful vintage train carriages. Extraordinary and delightful in equal measure, its two restored antique carriages (one called Vagón 1931, the other Vagón Alfonso XIII) provide the dining venue, alongside tables that are even laid out on the platform. The cuisine, an impressive updated take on traditional roots, is showcased on an à la carte and several menus: Ejecut

A unique, surprising and somewhat eclectic restaurant which, despite its young age, clearly demonstrates the chef’s passion for cooking. In the kitchen, chef Elena García conjures up a contemporary, fusion-inspired à la carte that introduces cooking from different parts of the world to the palate, from the recipes of Latin America to the sublime tastes of Spanish cuisine and the intense flavours of Asia. Media-raciones, plates for sharing and highly interesting dishes that don’t feature on the menu are also available. One dish that we enjoyed in particular was the mussels with a green curry sa

This restaurant has an intimate and rustic ambience and is run by a professional team which is constantly striving to innovate and to please its guests. Here you will find traditional cuisine brought up to date, as it dares to incorporate flavours from other parts of the world to elevate its dishes. You have the option of ordering à la carte (half plates are also available) or being guided through two menus, one of which is a tasting menu. Occupying a townhouse in the mountains around Madrid, this restaurant features a patio-terrace at the entrance and a rustic and unpretentious bistro-style interior. Choose between a concise à la carte (including “raciones”, half-portions, and even quarter-portions for some dishes) with no little creativity and a strong focus on dishes designed sharing. These dishes change regularly (on this visit we thoroughly enjoyed the red tuna with a pepper-flavoured butter, and the succulent meatballs made from 7-year -old ox from Buitrago de Lozoya) and are usually based around ingredients sourced locall
