Tradition, cutting-edge, flavour, attitude and passion, along with a consistent approach, define to perfection the cooking of Jordi Cruz. In his elegant restaurant boasting views of a tranquil garden dotted with some amazing works of contemporary art, he offers diners a unique gastronomic experience that constantly evolves in line with ingredients from the changing seasons. These are always combined with his technical ability as he revisits Catalan and other Mediterranean flavours with a nod to influences from elsewhere around the globe. The experience here, which begins with appetisers in the

It is located in uptown Barcelona and its name is anything but trivial, because when translated into English (seasoning, ripeness, moment) it highlights ‘the point or maturity of things’. Juanen Benavent, the Valencian-born chef at the helm of the restaurant, puts his stamp on seasonal local produce to offer an up-to-date, creative cuisine with notable French influences, something that is all the more understandable after learning that he spent four years working at the Goust restaurant in Paris. What will you find? Three set menus (Llavor, Germinat and Arrels) and finger-licking dishes, such

This restaurant, occupying the premises of the now-defunct Freixa Tradició and today featuring a designer interior, brings together the knowledge and dreams of three friends (hence the name MAE, which can be translated as ‘companion’ in the Costa Rican dialect): Mariella Rodríguez (Costa Rica, in charge of management) and chefs Diego Mondragón (Colombia) and Germán Espinosa (Spain). The whole proposal is built on a concept, Sincretismo, which according to the RAE (Royal Spanish Academy, the official institution responsible for overseeing the Spanish language) is the ‘combination of different th

A dual experience that fuses haute cuisine and architecture? You'll find few more interesting options, as this restaurant is located on the first floor of the famous Casa Fuster (now Hotel Casa Fuster), a jewel of Catalan Modernisme designed in the early 20th century by Lluís Domènech i Montaner. In its luminous and elegant dining room, with large columns flanking the incredible window and an undulating ceiling that reminds us of the titanium plates of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, you can enjoy a unique tasting menu with a contemporary-creative style, with the option of food and wine pairi

It's unusual to find spin-offs that manage to live up to the standards set by the original, but that is exactly what has happened in this incredible restaurant, named after the town in which legendary chef Martín Berasategui built his culinary empire. Here, Paolo Casagrande, the protégé of this San Sebastián culinary maestro, puts his own spin on exquisite dishes first conceived by his mentor, showcasing them in a more avant-garde setting (undulating ceilings that mimic waves, ethereal lamps that resemble jellyfish, golden tones, etc.). The menu, created by both chefs, with à la carte and set

This institution in the upper reaches of Barcelona, which has played host to a number of chefs who have gone on to win their own Michelin stars, reflects the love affair that its founder chef, Mey Hofmann, had with food, a legacy that she has passed down to her daughter Silvia and her expert teaching staff. In the restaurant itself, featuring staff from the school and a large picture window through which guests can watch activity unfold in the kitchen, an à la carte-style menu is available at lunchtime (along with a slightly more refined Gastronómico Mediodía menu). In the evening, these are r

Under this name, which automatically takes us into the world of dreams, we have found one of those establishments that we would all like to visit; it illustrates that the most longed-for and unattainable projects can become reality. The tandem at the helm, with Jonatan Izquierdo behind the burners and Laura Humanes in charge of everything in the dining room, champions a proposal of modern cuisine built from common sense, with a small menu and three interesting menus: Herrén (executive-style, only at midday during the week), Oníric and Somni. One dish that we loved? The risky but convincing con

The first thing to attract your attention at Prodigi is its name, created from the first syllable of three neighbouring streets (Provença, Diagonal and Girona). In this contemporary-style restaurant, the à la carte remains faithful to seasonal ingredients despite its concise nature and extols the virtues of traditional Catalan cuisine which it has successfully brought up to date. It is complemented by two set menus (one a three-course meal only available at lunchtime during the week, and a second more extensive tasting menu-style option). Chef Jordi Tarré, who is renowned for his highly elegant
