The Glass Garden

Creative · ★ Michelin

€€€

Housed in a distinctive glass vault with an elegant interior and a magnificent view of the city, Schloss Mönchstein's fine dining restaurant is an impressive space. Simon Wagner, who previously worked at Schloss Schauenstein in Fürstenau and IGNIV by Andreas Caminada in Bad Ragaz, is in charge of the kitchen here. With great skill, he reinterprets Austrian culinary tradition with a creative twist. Diners have a choice of two set menus (one vegetarian) comprising four or six courses, plus optional wine pairings. Alternatively, there is an à la carte selection, and "grosses pièces" such as whole

Creative, Classic Cuisine · ★ Michelin

€€€

As far as Salzburg's foodies are concerned, the Kaiblinger family's elegant restaurant with its vibrant, colourful decor is as important a landmark as the Mönchsberg. Made using excellent produce, Andreas Kaiblinger's culinary creations are classical in their foundations and full of flavour. He sparingly incorporates Asian and Mediterranean seasonings and gives his dishes a certain individuality. He and his team work meticulously to create punchy cuisine. Your charming maître d', Andrea Kaiblinger, has some fascinating wine recommendations up her sleeve. Delightful rear courtyard terrace!

Ikarus

Creative, Modern Cuisine · ★★ Michelin

€€€€

Further to its recent makeover, Ikarus is more stylish than ever. Set inside the architecturally spectacular Hangar-7, which also houses a fascinating exhibition of aeroplanes, helicopters and racing cars, the restaurant combines modern elegance and high-tech flair. The decor is upscale and minimalist with a colour scheme of grey and black. The new glass-enclosed wine climate cabinet immediately draws the eye, dark flooring and leather-upholstered tables add a touch of sophistication, and the striking lights in the ceiling produce a soothing, soft glow. The whole space radiates a sense of calm

Along with à la carte options such as char ceviche or local ribeye steak, there is a set menu comprising four or six courses. Tip: Brunch is also served on Sat and Sun (10am-2pm). N.B. cash payments only. The restaurant also has an online shop selling home-made goods (sauces, pesto, jam etc), as well as beer and wine.

Gasthof Goldgasse

Traditional Cuisine

€€

The dishes served here present a new take on old Salzburg recipes from a cookbook published in 1719! Located in the heart of the old town, the restaurant is incredibly cosy, thanks to its rustic light wood finishings and lovely vaulted ceiling. The friendly service adds to the charming atmosphere. The menu of Austrian classics naturally includes Backhendl (breaded fried chicken), Wiener schnitzel and Topfenschmarrn (shredded curd pancake). Tip: Book well in advance! The 700-year-old building also houses a chic little boutique hotel – you might be tempted to stay a little longer!

In the lovely historical setting of Villa Ceconi, Sybille and Richard Brunnauer's restaurant is the place to experience fantastic Austrian-style hospitality and cuisine. The dishes draw on French and international influences but give pride of place to the region and the seasons. Shining examples are the Styrian Alpine prawns with Marchfeld asparagus and creamed peas, or Tauern lamb with potato and leek mash and wild cauliflower. There are also vegan options. Gusswerk – once a bell foundry – is an impressive location for a restaurant. Details of the old industrial architecture have been skilfully combined with chic, stylish modern furnishings. The centrepiece is the open kitchen, allowing you to watch the team led by Andreas Senn and head chef Christian Geisler at work. The cuisine is presented in the form of "The 5 Senses of Taste", a set menu that abounds with creativity and well-thought-out details, finely balanced textures and bold flavours, from the five savoury appetisers to dishes such as "Chilean sea bass, ajoblanco, tomato, Amalfi lemon",
