If you’re not a guest at the Vigilius Mountain Resort hotel where this restaurant is situated, leave your car in Lana and take the short cable-car ride to Monte San Vigilio where you’ll find the hotel at an altitude of 1 500m (remember to check the time of the last cable-car back down the mountain!). Decorated with a profusion of wood, the dining room has the same modern feel as the creative mountain cuisine prepared by the new chef who started here in 2023.

Once you leave Merano, you follow a road through the woods for about 5km to reach Castel Fragsburg, a small, fairytale-like residence with an elegant feel and guestrooms decorated in the traditional style of the southern Tyrol. At the gourmet Prezioso restaurant, in fine weather lucky diners can choose to sit on one of the most spectacular terraces in Italy, perched high above the valley. Although fish dishes also feature on the menu, Hidalgo has long enjoyed a reputation for its excellent meat options thanks to its different cuts of steak and beef sourced from all around the world and cooked mainly (but not exclusively) on the barbecue grill. In a separate room(Aomi, a kind of restaurant within the restaurant), guests can choose from a menu dedicated uniquely (from antipasti to main courses) to Japanese Wagyubeef.

This restaurant has long been one of the most interesting in the area. It has a pleasing combination of traditional and modern cuisine created by the expert chef. The dining rooms have the same blend of old and new with an elegant use of local materials in the decor. Ask for one of the newer guestrooms.

The various Stube-style dining rooms in the Oberwirt hotel restaurant have a typical Tyrolean ambience, while the cuisine is decidedly traditional with its focus on seasonal and regional ingredients, although a few fish options also always feature on the menu. Wine-enthusiasts will be delighted with the excellent wine selection.
