For nearly 30 years, Arnaud and Cécilia Viel have been running their modern establishment with a strong personality in perfect harmony with the chef's cuisine. Here in Argentan, homage is paid to Normandy through exceptional hand-picked ingredients: local butter and unpasteurised farmhouse cream, scallops from Port-en-Bessin, lobster from Carteret, foie gras from the Pays d'Auge, sand carrots from Créances, sometimes combined with premium items such as caviar or black winter truffles. The food impresses with flawless execution and harmonious flavours. The excellent wine list is curated by Céci

A gorgeous country house smothered in Virginia Creeper, a waterside terrace shaded by birch trees and an historic mill, whose cogwheels are still intact: we fell in love with this Instagram-perfect picture of the French countryside outside Bernay. Such is the perfect foil for chef Cédric Auger’s cuisine that stars fresh, premium, seasonal produce. Book a room and stay overnight.

The name of this restaurant may refer to the close bond between the chef and the sommelière (who are partners in life), or the association of food and wine – the couple’s respective passions, or to the two set menus served in two separate dining spaces. The first is a “tasting bar”, which rolls out dishes to share that tap into influences from far and wide (ceviche of croaker, ceviche juice and guacamole); the second is dedicated to fine dining with two tasting menus (and a third more concise score at lunchtime). The chef, who finds his inspiration in Normandy’s first-class fare and culinary h

(Temporarily closed) Stéphane and Agnès Mabille greet guests warmly in their spruce, traditional inn, appointed in a rustic vein. The seasoned chef concocts homemade terrines and assorted Normandy delicacies. In fine weather, make a beeline for the garden and terrace, which overlook the horses grazing in the next-door world-famous Haras du Pin stud farm. Unstarched, friendly vibe.

On a side street of an iconic picturesque village of the Côte Fleurie, the establishment of the Tougard couple, open since the early 2000s, is fronted by a discreet facade. In a snug stylish interior, the chef crafts a score that cleverly slaloms between tradition and modernity. If we were to cite a single example, it would be his talented new take on calf’s head. Flavours and aromas that hit the spot every time. Not to be missed!

In a lovely, out-of-the-way spot in the Normandy countryside, this bright establishment also boasts a gorgeous terrace. Camille, front of house, and Tom Blain, in the kitchen, are the charming, energetic young couple at the helm. This well-crafted cuisine is a delight for the taste buds: varied textures in the starter featuring goat's cheese and slow-cooked egg, and excellent preparation of the beetroot accompanying a tasty wild boar pie. The bill, too, is sure to put a smile on your face. Tapas are served on Thu and Fri evenings.

Situated between Caen and Lisieux in the heart of the Pays d’Auge, Beuvron-en-Auge is picture postcard perfect with its 17-18C half-timbered houses, its manors and its gardens decked in flowers come summertime. The restaurant, which occupies the village’s former covered market, is fully in keeping with this olde worlde character. Chef Adrien Haye champions local producers in a bid to work with the best seasonal produce. The enticing culinary lineup allows diners to choose from oysters from Saint-Vaast, lobster from Carteret or John Dory, as well as foie gras, veal sweetbread, tripe and andouil

With its half-timbering and quaint charm, this characteristic old inn is the quintessence of Normandy and is now the haunt of a young couple who pay tribute to Normandy’s produce. The Dutch-born chef crafts modern, inspired cuisine, such as monkfish with green peas, aubergine caviar and a floral emulsion, or an upside-down apple tarte Tatin with vanilla ice cream – that is wickedly tempting!
