Cuines 33
Creative · ★★ Michelin
€€€€
A visit to Cuines 33 is a genuine experience. You are first invited to take a seat in the comfortable sitting room, whose peaceful sand-coloured zen interior unveils a tasteful tribute to Japanese minimalism. Edwin Menue’s passion for ceramics (which he himself also crafts) and silverware adds a distinctive personal dimension to the portrait. Right from the first bite, you will taste the chef’s creativity tinted with cosmopolitan accents and his determination to allow the ingredient to shout its name. The chef, backed by Fleur in the front of house, then invites you to step into the dining room

Boo Raan
Thai, Traditional Cuisine · ★ Michelin
€€
(Temporarily closed) Boo Raan is the best Thai restaurant in Benelux. The buzzy vibe of this exotic establishment, traditionally appointed in bamboo, immediately incites you to take a seat as you drool over the menu. The real show takes place in the open kitchen, in which Dokkoon Kapueak and her all-women team craft a wide range of authentic dishes from northern and southern Thailand to order. The chef’s grandmother taught her all about spices from how to subtly balance sweet-sour flavours to how to enhance the main ingredient. Her pad thai kai is a festival of bouncy noodles, spicy wok beef i

Sel Gris
Creative, Contemporary · ★ Michelin
€€€€
A suave grey colour scheme depicts the sleek, understated interior of Sel Gris, whose cosy comfort is underscored by designer fixtures and luxury finishings. However, the view takes centre stage here, as the restaurant stands on Duinbergen dike and commands a knockout panorama of the beach and the North Sea. The latter is a boundless source of inspiration for Frederik Deceuninck, whose enthusiasm can be tasted right from the appetisers. He mingles creativity and delicacy in expertly crafted recipes, often presented in several small plates with a meticulous sense of detail. You will notice his

Bartholomeus
french · ★★ Michelin
€€€€
Chef Bart Desmidt, his right-hand man Philip and gracious Sandra invite you to sample a banquet of flavour in Bartholomeus, a swanky restaurant with Japanese overtones. It is a treat to watch the cheerful chefs seamlessly and humorously working together in the open kitchen. The 18 seats around the counter are reserved for connoisseurs of high-flying cuisine. The single set menu rolls out several courses which reveal the chefs’ passion for fish and seafood, while Sandra can be relied upon for judicious wine-food pairings, drawn from a splendid cellar. The cast of exceptional ingredients stars t

Tablàvins
Modern Cuisine
€€€
This wine-decked, book-lined eatery sports a trendy colour scheme that reeks of the Flemish flair for interior decorating. The wine-food pairing suggestions are equally inspired. The food in the zeitgeist sports a subtle blend of tradition and exoticism: you may taste a generous saddle of rabbit or a sole sprinkled in Asian flavours. A deep-rooted respect for heritage paired with a streak of daring.

Esmeralda
Classic Cuisine
€€€
Stefan Verhasselt has been at the helm of this elegant edifice, next-door to Knokke casino, since 1975. His vast experience can be felt and tasted in every detail and particularly in the choice produce, which is mainly from the sea. He has a flair for transforming Zeebrugge shrimp into crispy fritters and his sole meunière garnished with fresh tartare sauce and piping hot fresh fries is second to none. Rather than complex or fussy preparations, you will be treated to a banquet of classical know-how, illustrated by the house specialty, seabass in a salt crust.

Il Trionfo
Italian
€€€
Il Trionfo is both an elegant restaurant and a family story. The father and daughter-in-law preside front-of-house, and their enthusiasm is infectious. He also has some fantastic wine recommendations up his sleeve. Upon entering the restaurant, you will catch a glimpse of the mother and son at work in the kitchen. You can opt for the more creative set menu or order à la carte from a selection of traditional robust Mediterranean classics like vitello tonnato and spaghetti vongole. Don't miss the osso buco – the meat is unbelievably tender, and that typically rich tomato sauce is simply divine.

La Rigue
Belgian, Classic French
€€€€
The stunning La Réserve hotel boasts a brasserie that is fully the equal to its classy host. The Zegemeer landscape, visible from the handsome terrace, provides the perfect foil to this urbane restaurant. Local foodies swarm here, like bees to a hive, for its lineup of patriotic and Gallic favourites, jazzed up with a delicate new spin. For example, a subtle carpaccio of scallops is paired with tart green apples, avocado and salmon roe, while a bouillabaisse of North Sea fish, langoustine and lobster explodes with big-boned gutsiness… Finish your meal with a flamboyant flambéed crêpe suzette.
