Elegance and sophistication permeate every inch of the fine dining restaurant of the Hotel Riva. It begins with the aperitif in the inviting lounge (also ideal for a digestif or coffee) and continues in the elegant restaurant. In the pretty Jugendstil villa dating back to 1909, Dirk Hoberg turns heads with his fantastic haute cuisine that is rooted in the classics. In the tasting menu, top-quality ingredients are combined in an extremely delicate and thoughtful way and finished with wonderful French-inspired sauces – the zander poached in oil on fresh Swiss chard and nut butter hollandaise is

On the banks of the Rhine, this restaurant is tucked away behind a somewhat unprepossessing exterior directly above the angling club. The cuisine, based on excellent ingredients and with fish as the centrepiece, is a master class in finesse. In the evening, there are two five-course menus to choose from (as well as à la carte options); on weekdays, there is a very reasonably priced "Business Lunch" deal. They stock only German wines and the selection is outstanding. There is also a children's menu. The delicious food is served by friendly and attentive staff. In summer, make a beeline for the

Even after moving to the centre of Konstanz, Patrick Stier has remained true to his style. He serves up classic cuisine with Mediterranean influences – think sea bass grenobloise with artichokes and a saffron emulsion or saddle of venison with a sour cherry game jus, warm pointed cabbage salad, port wine cherries, macadamia nuts and Topfenknödel (curd dumplings). Diners can choose between the "Gourmet" and "Vegetarian Gourmet" set menus and à la carte dishes.

This is MICHELIN-starred chef Tim Raue's take on a French brasserie. The restaurant mirrors the Colette brasseries in Berlin and Munich with an interesting modern dining concept: Diners can order à la carte or compose their own four-course set menu, which can also be vegan. Classics such as beef Wellington (served for two) are available too, as are seasonal dishes. The highlight here is the first-floor terrace overlooking the pedestrian area – but seating is limited, so you'd be well advised to book!

The fantastic location by the lake is a draw in itself – a spot on the lovely terrace with a view of the water is of course particularly sought after! But the interior of this bright, elegant restaurant inside the hotel of the same name is also appealing – the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lake can be opened up. The seasonal cuisine is predominantly regional, with international influences, Mediterranean or occasionally Asian touches. The menu also features classic dishes. Chic bar and relaxed outdoor lounge.
