This could be the icing on the cake during your visit to this beautiful city, with its medieval centre declared a World Heritage Site. The restaurant, in an unassuming building in the historic centre, features a charming dining room from which you can see the kitchen, separated by a glass wall. Chef António Loureiro, always loyal to the idea that “cooking is also about storytelling”, serves up his Equilíbrio (“Balance”) tasting menu (available in 6 or 9 courses) and a small menu with dishes taken from it, such as his excellent, tender and tasty veal with cauliflower. The balanced concept, brim

This is an unusual project, as it reflects a family business’s investment in diversification, encompassing the world of swimming pools, haute cuisine, and premium accommodation (they also offer 7 suites). The spacious and eye-catching premises, at the southern exit of the town, surprise visitors with a sort of wine tasting bar where they celebrate the region’s finest wines. In its elegant dining room, run by a professional team, they offer an à la carte service and two tasting menus (Tradition and Innovation) that change with the seasons and draw from the finest national seasonal produce. Housed in an old building that almost goes unnoticed among its neighbours. This restaurant enjoys privileged views from its terrace, where you can contemplate the Church of São Gualter – an iconic symbol of the city. At the stove is Chef Miguel Marques, who boasts wide experience in renowned restaurants in Zurich, Munich and Portugal, and presents a menu inspired by human "Evolution", reflected in dishes that hark back to the past and others that draw on culinary progress. His proposal revolves around a single seven-course tasting menu, à la carte options and a weekly menu that changes each se

It is located in the luxurious Vidago Palace hotel, built in 1910 by King Carlos due to its proximity to the famous Vidago thermal spring waters. It is no surprise that the restaurant boasts a majestic décor, with high ceilings and a huge handmade carpet covering the floor that once served as the palace’s ballroom. Consultant chef Vítor Matos provides traditional Northern Portuguese cuisine combined with modern creativity, showcased in an à la carte menu and two tasting menus: Essência (“Essence”) and Cumplicidades (“Alliances”). Standout dishes? The scallops accompanied by prawn ravioli and a

Here they are fully committed to delivering the essence of the surrounding land, the Monterrei region of Orense. In this declaration of love for their Galician roots and their own flavours, they sell the project as such: ‘First the product, then the technique’. This family-run establishment, located in a manor house that also has charming rooms (O Retiro do Conde), is under the direction of chef José Luis Prieto, who offers a contemporary take on the local gastronomic tradition, through a short menu and several tasting menus: Gastronomic (set lunch menu), Market and Tamagani.

(Temporarily closed due to relocation) This restaurant, located along the well-maintained banks of the Támega, the river that criss-crosses the town of Verín in the province of Ourense, is not be missed, as chef Begoña Vázquez focuses on traditional Galician cooking and the typical flavours and ingredients (organic veal and chestnuts in season) of the Monterrei area, which the chef combines with a more contemporary approach. The à la carte service is complemented by several set menus: Sinxelo (short, set lunch menu on weekdays), Raíces and Recordos.

A unique restaurant occupying the stone house that was once home to the century-old Casa Fandiño restaurant. Today, the name, which translates as the “murmur of the river” in Galician, pays a discreet tribute to the poem Dark Shadow by the renowned Galician poet Rosalía de Castro. The first thing that strikes you here is the meticulous, rustic-contemporary interior decor, which is almost an extension of the charm found in the streets of Allariz. Madrid-born chef Luis Moreno created this project in the town where he always spent his summers. Dining options are based around two tasting menus: one

About a 10-minute walk from the city centre, just off the ring road, this restaurant is a pleasant surprise on the ground floor of a residential building. Under the guidance of chef Hugo Sousa, who succeeded his father António Sousa, now front of house and always impeccably attentive, the kitchen leans modern, technical and delicate, grounded in showcasing local produce. The concept offers two tasting menus: Irreverência (6 moments) and Entre o Campo e o Mar (9 moments). Standout dishes? We were impressed by the artisanal breads, Pão de centeio, Broa de milho e ananás and the region’s typical
