This family-run restaurant, in business for over five decades, has a true passion for food and has moved with the times without losing its traditional values. Located just a few metres from León’s cathedral, known as the Pulchra Leonina, this restaurant is full of contrasts, ranging from the masonry on the façade, which is in keeping with its historic surroundings, to its surprising contemporary-style interior design, which features an unusual wood-panelled ceiling. Alongside his wife Yolanda Rojo (the daughter of the founder), chef Juanjo Losada creates what could be described as cutting-edge

The name of the restaurant, which comes from the Spanish verb “cocinar” (to cook), says it all as Yolanda León and Juanjo Pérez met while working together in different kitchens before they decided to come together to pursue a shared dream. The unexpectedly modern interior of the historic Casa del Peregrino (1750), next to the monumental Parador-Hostal de San Marcos, provides the backdrop for cuisine with an identity that stems from transparency. The creatively inspired cuisine here is centred around two tasting menus (Cocinar León and Gran Menú Cocinandos) which tell a story, are based around

Located in the Húmedo district, the liveliest in the city, ConMimo is run by a couple (Javier in the kitchen and Ángela front of house) with a passion for hospitality, cooking and service. Boasting a kitchen that opens on to the dining room, in so doing enhancing the experience, this eatery serves contemporary cooking with a few global influences on two enticing tasting menus entitled Corta Distancia and Larga Distancia (both with a Premium option). Here, you’ll find dishes with impressive global influences from Italy, Japan, Peru, Mexico, France and elsewhere, as well as dishes influenced by

Located on the ground floor of a hotel (FC Los Cubos) opposite the Roman walls, it takes its name from a local breed of dog (Carea Leonés or Leonese shepherd) and is impressively run by Ana and Mario, a friendly couple who are keen to demonstrate the love they have for this region. Their contemporary cuisine comes courtesy of an à la carte and a tasting menu which are based around seasonal ingredients from León province but which always aim to add an element of surprise and interesting hints of fusion. One of Carea Bistró’s signature dishes is the delicious burrata with mangetout and a pistach

This contemporary restaurant, whose name is a nod to the chef's mother (Camino), has become a great spot in the Barrio Húmedo. He surprises us by placing the kitchen in the centre of the restaurant, completely open and with a bar around it where we can also eat while watching the chef, Mario Gómez, hard at work. It also features several tables, each with a system of white sheer curtains running from the ceiling to the floor, allowing guests to create spaces with a degree of privacy. Here you will find a modern, daring, international proposal not exempt from powerful flavours (they like pickled

Marcela boasts an outstanding location just a few metres from the Museo Casa Botines Gaudí. It features two dining spaces: an informal tapas option on the ground floor and a more sophisticated dining room upstairs - between the two is a striking glass floor adorned with a water feature. The cuisine here is based around ingredients of the highest quality, with a market menu that includes some dishes made to order (such as seafood or their famous Sirloin Wellington). They collaborate with the Auditorio Ciudad de León, so on Fridays and Saturdays there are usually live concerts with artists from
