Highlights include soft egg, pan-fried courgettes and spring onions, and pecorino crumble, as well as soft veal rump, Jerusalem artichoke sauce and home-made pickled vegetables. The wine and spirits selection is particularly appealing – as an example, the Orvieto Classico Superiore Doc “Vendemmia Tardiva” is the perfect pairing for your dessert.

Boasting the attractive ambience of a typical Italian trattoria, La Palomba has been run by the Cinti family since 1965 and is now in the hands of the third generation. The menu features Umbrian specialities including delicious home-made umbrichelli pasta served with various sauces.

Situated in the heart of a small medieval castle-hamlet, this traditional-style restaurant with an attractive terrace on the historic square provides the setting for local specialities such as freshwater fish and truffles in season. There’s also a wine boutique on the same piazza (reached as soon as you come into the historic centre), which sells typical local produce and a good selection of wine. The latter also features on the restaurant’s wine list, with the family on hand to offer recommendations.

Having arrived in the picturesque village of San Casciano, we recommend a charming walk through the cobbled streets to admire its perfect preservation. Next, in the main square, take a seat at Daniela's. The Tuscan menu offers homemade pastas and a small wine list that celebrates Tuscany, with an international twist such as Greystone's 2016 Thomas Brother Pinot Noir. Among the delicacies on offer, you will find pici all'aglione, pappardelle al cinghiale, porchettato rabbit and grilled veal tenderloin: in short, a choice for all tastes! The cosy rooms are carved out of old stone spaces, and the
