Bad Balgach by Schützelhofer
Classic Cuisine · ★ Michelin
€€€
An absolute must for lovers of classic cuisine! Bernd Schützelhofer works only with the best the market has to offer, using these ingredients as the foundation of his expressive, clearly structured dishes. His no-frills, down-to-earth cooking is focused entirely on the flavours, for example: the finely seasoned wild scallops are perfectly fried and translucent, with a beautiful roasted flavour, and served with slightly al dente risotto with a subtle hint of Champagne, as well as crunchy white asparagus slices, tender, sweet peas and shavings of artichoke bottoms. This 16C farmhouse has been turned into a really charming restaurant boasting a splendid view of Lake Constance. Featuring warm wood finishings and sleek design, the decor embodies a winning combination of the old and the new. Hostess Ariane Cresta provides cordial service in the cosy dining area, while chef-patron Lino Cresta cooks up his modern take on classic cuisine with a regional touch. On the menu, you will find veal cordon bleu, as well as beef tenderloin and brasato with potato, cauliflower, parsnip and XO, or even porcini tortelloni. In the evening, the à la carte selection is comple

This place may have a resolutely relaxed atmosphere, but in no way does that detract from the high degree of professionalism in both the service, courtesy of friendly owner Bernd Mossmann, and Paul Hunger's cuisine. The chef turns out fuss-free dishes made using top-notch, mostly organic regional produce – the full-bodied beef broth with root vegetables is a delicious way to kick off your meal. The interesting decor featuring unique decorative elements makes for a charming vintage feel. When the weather is nice, head for the inviting terrace. A somewhat simpler, pared-back menu is served at lu

Gasthaus Zum Gupf

Perched 1 083m above sea level and reached by a steep, narrow path, this place is a little slice of heaven! The pretty inn with a wood-panelled interior exudes regional charm and boasts a view of the mountains or the lake, plus a wonderful terrace. Walter Klose cooks up aromatic classic cuisine that follows the seasons and marries finesse with a certain unpretentiousness. This winning combination yields genuine feel-good dishes of superior quality – the liver dumpling soup, for example, is notable for its full-bodied flavour, harmonious seasoning and elegant finish. This restaurant serves classic, seasonal cuisine crafted with skill and packed with flavour. Highlights include braised veal breast with potato gratin, oxtail-stuffed gnocchi with black truffle and Parmesan wheel spaghetti. In the evening, diners can choose a three- to five-course menu or order à la carte; lunch is more streamlined with a more moderately priced set menu, along with à la carte options. The interior is cheerful and cosy, and service is attentive and professional. There is also an attractive hall for events.

The elevated location between Lake Constance and the Alpstein massif is quite something! As it is in the small castle hotel, the focus in the restaurant is on all things organic and ecological. This translates into mindful produced ingredients and organic produce from local suppliers, plus vegetables and herbs from the hotel's 2 500m2garden. In the evening, diners enjoy adept service and dishes such as fillet of perch caught by professional fisherman Claudio Görtz from Altenrhein, saffron foam, leek and Parisian potatoes, or roasted lettuce, lentil vinaigrette, creamed potato and herb oil. Villa am See by Sandro Lüthi
Modern Cuisine, Farm to table

Housed in a villa in a beautiful location, this restaurant is run with great dedication by a young couple – Sandro Lüthi (kitchen) and Paulina Soares (service) – and their small, friendly team. Working in tandem in the kitchen, the owner and his chef Robert Fiedler devise two three- to six-course set menus in the evening, one of which is vegetarian, plus à la carte dishes. Expect modern, seasonal and ingredient-led cuisine – predominantly French and Mediterranean in style, complemented by international twists and a dose of creativity. Examples include "baked egg, spinach, Parmesan, truffle" an

Dorfstuba is the name of the restaurant at the design-led boutique hotel Dorfhus Gupf, which stands out right in the centre of the village with its striking appearance. Service is provided by a friendly and attentive team, and the charming setting has a modern, Alpine feel. A particular focal point is the open kitchen with its prominent asado grill, on which whole fish and special cuts of meat are prepared. However, the Wiener schnitzel, braised beef cheeks or fish curry are also well worth trying. Sommelier Johannes Fitz is on hand to recommend the perfect wine from the fantastic list, which
