Rocio's Mexican Kitchen
Mexican, Regional Cuisine · Bib
$
Mexican restaurants are lucky if they can pull off one good mole. Chef Rocio Camacho goes above and beyond with far more at this humble Bell Gardens outpost that has little in the way of décor. From the dark-as-night Oaxaqueno to the spicy-sweet manchamanteles to the vibrant verde, moles here are layered, sophisticated efforts that come paired with your choice of chicken, fish, shrimp, steak or even a massive chile relleno. On a menu that covers a lot of territory, stick to this signature dish, which arrives overly generous in size. Otherwise, a warm basket of chips laced with a handful of sau

With only one seating per night, this exclusive destination is a treat for a mere handful of lucky diners. Indeed, securing a reservation is no small feat, but the reward is a culinary spectacle with few equals. All eyes are on Chef Brandon Hayato Go, who handles and arranges every ingredient with care and explains every course in great detail. Seasonality is everything, as thoughtfully sourced ingredients are sliced, fried, grilled or steamed to exacting standards. The likes of abalone, snow crab, onions and corn are presented on prized Japanese pottery and porcelain collected by the chef him

Asian, Contemporary · ★ Michelin

Chef Jonathan Yao has found a grand stage in this cool enclave of polished concrete in the Row DTLA. Here, he and his team have worked diligently to hone an inspired tasting menu, drawing deftly from his Taiwanese background and LA upbringing, threading a path between boldness with refinement. Gently cooked Mt. Lassen trout is bathed in a vibrant, complex fish broth bolstered with fermented Napa cabbage tingling spice, while crisp-skinned Peking-style duck breast is matched with a sesame ball filled with juicy confit and a rich jus flavored with citrusy magao pepper, at once comforting and exc

Camphor
French, Contemporary · ★ Michelin
$$$$
This popular spot hums with activity from eager diners and a bustling open kitchen. Headed by the talented Chef Max Boonthanakit and team, Camphor plates seriously good French fare with a sprinkling of creative flair. Inventive cocktails, including the refreshing Rue de Baci, complete the experience. Sea bream crudo with green apple ice and horseradish cream offers a fresh, aromatic opener before a main course like scallop demi-lune pasta in truffle-chive beurre blanc. Bistro classics like steak au poivre with Cognac cream (best accompanied by golden brown frites) remain central to the menu. A

Japanese, Sushi · ★ Michelin

Chef Seigo Tamura's 715 doesn't offer the typical hushed omakase. Instead, music plays in the background here, where an eight-seat counter is wonderfully spacious, and chef mostly keeps to himself as he assembles each bite with quiet efficiency. Start the meal with a number of kitchen dishes like excellent monkfish liver, or charcoal-grilled beltfish served with a scattering of sansho pepper. All of the seafood comes from Japan, and larger fish like tuna are aged in-house. Rice for the nigiri is on the firmer side with a touch of sugar added as a nod to his Osaka roots. Their sake list feature

Holbox
mexican, seafood · ★ Michelin
$$
Its namesake is a Caribbean island just off the coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, but this beloved counter, located inside the Mercado La Paloma, is a distinctively Angelino phenomenon. Chef Gilbert Cetina, who previously cooked with his father at neighboring stall Chichen Itza, draws from Mexican coastal cuisines in dishes whose simplicity belies remarkable flavor. Spectacular quality seafood of unassailable freshness leaves an impression, whether in electrifyingly vibrant aguachiles and ceviches, excellent tacos served on house-made heirloom corn tortillas or skillfully grilled lobster — a pan

Pizzeria Bianco Los Angeles
Pizza, Italian-American · Bib
$$
Pizzeria Bianco proves that Los Angeles can more than hold its own in the pizza conversation. Long lines still snake through ROW DTLA, with diners crowding both the dining room and takeout window in pursuit of Chef Chris Bianco’s famously blistered pies. The menu remains tightly focused, featuring just a handful of pizzas executed with remarkable consistency, from the “Biancoverde” topped with fresh mozzarella, Parmigiano-Reggiano, ricotta and arugula to the “Wiseguy” layered with wood-roasted onion, fennel sausage and smoked mozzarella. The margherita remains a benchmark in its simplicity, wh

The Factory Kitchen
italian · Bib
$$
This “factory” is actually sleek, with cement columns, a modern bar and wide-open garage doors that enhance its lofty feel. However, the heart and soul of its kitchen is dedicated to traditional Northern Italian cuisine. This should come as no surprise, as Angelo Auriana and Matteo Ferdinandi are turning heads with their quickly expanding empire. Devotion to regionally specific flavors is clear in every bite. Ravioli, made in house, tucked with seafood and tossed in an aromatic and savory sauce, is a winner, but don't skip the shatteringly crisp focaccina calda di Recco, filled with Crescenza
