Can Boix

Are you in the mood for genuine Catalan cuisine? In this cosy family restaurant, on the roadside and with stone walls, they offer the authenticity you're looking for, because the best thing about rural businesses is that they tend to shun the superfluous and build on honesty. The Boix brothers (Jordi and Albert), through their menu and a weekly set menu that evolves with the season, are firmly committed to traditional sea and mountain stews, meats grilled over a natural wood fire and, above all, the preparation of some truly exquisite rice dishes for two (there is even a vegan one). They also

Can Xapes is much more than a restaurant thanks to its history (it started out as a cinema in 1949). It is also part of the non-profit “AD' Iniciatives Socials” organisation, which provides work opportunities for youngsters with limited financial resources and access to training. Nowadays operating as a restaurant school, it highlights its links with the past via the original Art Deco-style bar counter from the former Rosa cinema. It also features attractive dining rooms where guests can savour Catalan cuisine with a contemporary feel on three menus (De Temporada, De Cine and Degustación) base

An old military fortress provides the backdrop for this Roca brothers venture, occupying the imposing Castillo de Sant Julià de Ramis, barely 10km from Girona, which they have transformed into a leading food and cultural centre. In this setting, which also features a superb hotel, everything makes an impression, from the access through the CCR exhibition explaining the creative processes of El Celler de Can Roca (CCR), to the impressive dome in the wine cellar (housing over 80 000 bottles), academy-library and the distillery that now acts as the restaurant’s R&D space. 2026 is already penned in ink as the 40th anniversary of the year in which the Roca brothers opened the doors of this famed restaurant. They describe themselves as an “equilateral triangle that encompasses the three sides of gastronomy” and like to say that their luck is down to the balance struck in a metaphorical “game of three players”, with Joan in charge of savoury dishes, Josep as the sommelier and Jordi on dessert duty. Whatever their approach, the essence of their cuisine is to enable guests to experience enjoyment through their eyes, palate and every other sense as part of a spiral of

Modern Cuisine · ★ Michelin

A family-run restaurant with plenty of history and a positive future ahead of it. After more than 30 years at the helm, chef Pere Massana and his wife Ana Roger have brought their children into the business, with one in charge of the dining room, the other bringing fresh impetus to Massana’s cuisine in the kitchen. Here, you’ll find an elegant setting and a combination of tradition and innovation that highlights a constant focus on locally sourced ingredients and the use of contemporary cooking techniques to maximise flavour. There’s also plenty of attention to detail, presentation and balance.

In this restaurant, which stands out for its contemporary design set against a backdrop of beautiful Catalan vaults, the highlight is the constant attention provided by the owners: Joan Morillo in the dining room and his wife, Laura Tejero, as sommelier. The menu, which could be described as a nostalgic take on Catalan cuisine (with subtle undertones and well-judged French influences), aims to offer the finest ingredients and a wide range of choices; that’s why the menu allows you to order half portions, and if you fancy letting yourself be guided, there’s also a full tasting menu available. Located at the entrance to the old town and with a name that is more than justified... it has a romantic terrace overlooking the imposing arcades of the medieval bridge! In its rooms, with a warm rustic atmosphere and an abundance of stone, they offer a traditional menu (dishes as the Cow's tail cooked in red wine of Empordà and Ratafia Russet and the popular Sweet and sour rabbit with raisins, pine nuts and baked apple) and an executive-style menu with dishes of your choice. Friendly service!

Fontané is located on the summit of the Sants Metges mountain in a location that the restaurant describes as “between heaven and earth”. Here, the focus is on the traditional Catalan cuisine that the Roca brothers, in a tribute to their mother (Montserrat Fontané), conjure up at the Hotel Esperit Roca, in the Castillo de Sant Julià de Ramis. The dining room, with its wooden deck and impressive views, provides the setting for cuisine that evokes the delicious dishes that their mother used to make at the original Can Roca, and which they have recreated here with a modern twist.
