Farm to table, Creative · ★ Michelin

Technique, creativity and a focus on and respect for the past are just some of the criteria that guide chef Matteo Vergine. His modern dishes aim to reflect the ancestral flavours of Brianza and Lombardy in bygone days when hunting, freshwater fishing, growing vegetables and gathering wild herbs were all part of everyday life. The focus at La Piemontese, a simple yet modern restaurant with a convenient car park, is mainly on meat dishes, although game and fresh truffles also feature in season, plus there’s a generous business menu at lunchtime. An enjoyable dining experience that offers good value for money.

This restaurant, one of the finest in the region, is run by its owner Giancarlo Morelli and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2023. Situated in the centre of Seregno, the restaurant is intimate and welcoming with walls adorned with beautiful works of contemporary art thanks to the restaurant’s partnership with a local art gallery. The cuisine here is modern yet unfussy and the chef is equally at ease with meat, fish and vegetable dishes. One of the few restaurants around Monza to still offer a cheese course!

The cuisine is overseen by Davide, who trained with Mauro Elli, the owner-chef of Il Cantuccio in Albavilla. Here, he creates dishes full of character, with a focus on top-quality ingredients and skilful presentation techniques. For a memorable dining experience, the chef’s surprise menu makes an excellent choice. Impressive wine selection and professional service overseen by Gabriele add to the appeal. This welcoming restaurant in the hills surrounding Lake Alserio makes guests feel completely at home. The two young chefs with plenty of experience behind them create modern dishes with a preference for quick cooking methods and a focus on a wood-fired oven and barbecue, as well as fermented ingredients.
