Central Texas-style barbecue in Orlando? You bet, at this spot off busy Curry Ford Road from owner/pitmaster Tyler Brunache. Concrete floors, simple tables, and a lengthy menu written on butcher paper are a sign that this place is serving up the real deal. It's a classic meat and sides affair, and they even make their own white bread that's sliced and served alongside your selections. Pork ribs in a black pepper and salt rub are tender and incredibly flavorful with a nice hit of smoky edge, while the jalapeño-cheddar sausage gives Texas a run for its money. Sides like collard greens studded wi

Sorekara
Japanese, Contemporary · ★★ Michelin

In a world of uniformity, Sorekara proudly forges its own path. This Baldwin Park restaurant is unlike anywhere else you've been, offering a surprising and delightful culinary journey that revels in turning expectations on their head. Chef/owner William Shen's tasting menu highlights Japan's 72 micro seasons with highly original dishes infused with a sense of whimsy (note the course designed to mimic a convenience store snack run or the "nigiri"). Whether it's madai sporting a distinctive riff on tradition or a deeply savory bowl of kegani sourced from Hokkaido, there is an elegance and refine

Otto's High Dive
Cuban, American · Bib

This tiny but oh-so-sweet space recalls the charm of Old Florida with its whitewashed brick walls and white tile floors. Billed as a neighborhood rum bar, Otto's High Dive is on point at every turn, from the genuine service to the unfussy but well-executed food. The kitchen delivers a concise edit of Floridian/Cuban fare with oodles of tropical elements. Begin with oysters before moving on to an array of cold and hot plates ranging from a shrimp cocktail that's all grown up with its thick "Bloody Mary" sauce to chicken mojo and ropa vieja with sides like rice and beans. Husband-and-wife team Mark and Jennifer Berdin helm this intimate eight-seat counter, which began as a small market stand before evolving into an eight-seat tasting-menu experience. The atmosphere is relaxed and personable, with Chef Berdin preparing each course directly in front of guests, balancing focus with an easy warmth. Expect a generous progression that moves from composed small dishes and pristine sashimi into a carefully paced nigiri sequence, built piece by piece with warm rice and clean seasoning. A thoughtful fish-based ramen and restrained desserts round out a meal that feels bot

Chef Tung Phan's Lake Baldwin restaurant is boldly sleek with elegant touches (think wood accents and beautiful lighting). Seats at the counter feature the multicourse Vietnamese French tasting menu, while booths offer an abbreviated version. Rooted in French techniques, Vietnamese flavors are given a refined twist here. Phở hà nội is inspired by northern-style pho, albeit this iteration features wagyu tartare, savory broth and a doughnut-style pastry. Salmon over king trumpet noodles in a tamarind and pineapple sauce is creative, but the best may be saved for last. Bánh Đậu Đỏ is highly creat

This sleek, Mills 50 eatery is located in the same strip as the Tien Hung Market. With an upbeat playlist and an attractive dining room, the restaurant specializes in chewy noodles made from wheat sourced from Japan’s Kagawa Prefecture. Ikura, tempura and top-notch ingredients like Hokkaido uni and A5 Kagoshima wagyu pair with broths of wonderful smokiness and depth. Starters like tatsuta-age (fried chicken) and yaki gyoza (pork dumplings) are familiar and reliable, but consider opting for the ikura onsen, which features a softly poached egg crowned with crispy garlic. Either way, expect preci

Bánh Mì Boy

Located inside Mills Market, Bánh Mì Boy brings a Vietnamese look, feel, and flavor to this food hall. As the name suggests, bánh mì, or sandwiches, are indeed the focus (try the crispy pork belly with roasted garlic mayo and house patė on French bread for a deeply savory and satisfying meal). It's not just about the classics, though, and fusion finds include a French dip with a side of pho broth, as well as a Vietnamese-style cheesesteak. The create-your-own summer roll option is undoubtedly one of their most appealing options, with the ability to pick from a variety of proteins (think pork b

Japanese, Onigiri · Bib

Set within the Mills Market, this casual concept from Chef/owner William Shen (and named for his pup, Uni) draws a line before it's even open. Everyone is clamoring for a taste of their onigiri, on offer until they sell out. The menu is a moving target, with ever-changing availability alongside a host of daily specials like a Japanese curry hash brown. Made and served in sealed bags, the classic triangles are best eaten while still warm. It's all spot-on, whether filled with a crispy fried chicken thigh or tuna enlivened with mustard. Unagi is a fan favorite, with cubes of barbecued freshwater
