Patrick Mahler and his team offer a unique culinary experience in the form of an exciting six- or eight-course set menu. Replete with intricate details, it blends classic, Japanese and Scandinavian elements. Amuse-bouches, such as shiitake dashi with a lovely hint of ginger, provide the perfect prelude. Hard to be beaten in terms of intensity and complexity of flavour is the combination of Miéral pigeon and truffle, accompanied by the wonderful depth of pigeon jus, as well as Albufera sauce and white cabbage foam. The signature dish of duck liver ice cream with beetroot and beef tartare also d

A great place to experience nature untamed – in a sensational location at an altitude of 1 550m! Under the direction of Benedikt Voss, the cuisine is well devised and very technically sophisticated; refined yet brimming with ideas, it steers well clear of gimmicks and ostentation. Only high-quality, mostly organic produce from Switzerland is used, as well as over 400 different herbs from their own garden. Opt for the alcohol-free drink pairings, which include house-made lemonades. Why not book one of the simple but well-kept guestrooms at the Kräuter Hotel Edelweiss, in which the restaurant is

"Dining at a friend's place" sums the vibe up nicely, and the unique location, for starters, is part of that: The relatively small restaurant is in an apartment on the third floor of a residential and restaurant block. The upscale interior has a modern-minimalist aesthetic feel – art on the walls and a stylish fireplace enhance the visual appeal. The pleasingly intimate feel results not least from the central open kitchen, which means you're right there in the thick of things! Diners are in good hands with chef Christoph Oliver Aebersold and restaurant manager Agron Tunprenkaj – two consummate

Housed in the exclusive Park Hotel Vitznau, which dates back to 1903, this summer-only restaurant whisks you away on a culinary voyage. Japanese fusion cuisine is the name of the game here. There is an omakase menu (for two or more diners) and an à la carte selection including sushi, sashimi, Wagyu dishes and ramen. The vibe is casually elegant. The location overlooking the lake is a draw in itself, and it goes without saying that tables on the terrace are highly coveted.

The manifold dining options available at Bürgenstock Hotel & Alpine Spa include this modern restaurant, which is the perfect choice for fans of Asian cuisine. Premium ingredients go into the Japanese, Chinese, Thai and Indian dishes prepared in an open kitchen. Tip: "Signature Peking duck" (by pre-order only). From the idyllic location overlooking the lake, at over 800m above sea level, the views are sensational – and the terrace is wonderful! Should you prefer to focus your attention on the action in the kitchen, book a table by the kitchen pass.

With its tasteful blend of historical features and upscale minimalist modern design, this former Capuchin monastery provides a wonderful setting for the restaurant. In the open kitchen, the team champions ingredients from Central Switzerland, supplemented by produce from the Alpine region. The evening features an appealing à la carte selection alongside a four-course "Tavolata" for the whole table, available as a surprise menu or with a main course of your own choice. In summer, the secluded monastery terrace is especially lovely. Breakfast is also served, with a regional "monastery breakfast"

Wherever you look, there's history – the old fortified tower is magnificent! After 33 years, the business has changed hands, but new owners Lukas and Evelyn Christen are committed to keeping the tradition alive. The menu continues to feature both regional and international dishes. Look out for the label "Guets vo hie" on the menu, which indicates the local specialities such as topside beef carpaccio with horseradish, red onions and fried mushrooms. The courtyard terrace is especially pleasant. Tip: This pretty restaurant also makes an ideal venue for weddings and other celebrations.

The name "HYG" is a nod to the Danish word and concept of hygge, which describes the combination of cosiness, conviviality and culinary enjoyment. The motivated young team and trendy, modern decor foster just that relaxed, feel-good atmosphere. Choose between a sharing menu for two or more people and an à la carte menu with dishes such as "yellowfin tuna, tomato, daikon", "linguine, wild-caught Argentine red shrimp, Amalfi lemon" or "crispy Alpstein chicken, roasted vegetable cream, smoked almonds". The wine list, which comprises around 500 items, also includes well-known names and great wines
