Archibald De Prince

Organic, Creative · ★ Michelin

€€€€

Archibald De Prince is going from strength to strength in the company of Rachel, who acts as your charming hostess. De Prince honed his skills as second chef to René Mathieu at La Distillerie as you will quickly realise. Vegetables take pride of place in his culinary score, but not to the detriment of meat and fish. The chef has a knack for sourcing outstanding local produce which he then enhances courtesy of a deft creative touch. He might craft a tartare of locally bred salmon trout with a subtle herby salad, adding a suave caper and parsley emulsion for a final flourish of contrast. The set

Bagatelle

French Contemporary, Creative · ★ Michelin

Chef Gerald Schöberl and his team successfully weave interesting Japanese influences into French classics, resulting in harmonious marriages of flavours. Skilfully integrated accents create a certain tension, always ultimately striking the perfect balance – a case in point is the excellent hamachi: lightly marinated, it is accompanied by artfully arranged rolls of daikon filled with fresh cress and finished with a refreshing vinaigrette and delicate tobiko caviar. The food is served as a four- to seven-course set menu. In addition to the wine pairings, the house-made alcohol-free beverage pair

This tasteful restaurant is housed in the converted corn barn of a magnificent Baroque castle dating from 1751. The decor is a fascinating blend of rustic cachet and modern design – the open truss roof is striking and the two historical carriages on the wall are certainly eye-catching! Sample the flavoursome dishes à la carte or as a set menu, washed down by your choice from the terrific wine list that includes rare finds, including by the glass. Charming garden, a banquet hall and a registry office. On a practical note: easy parking.

Brimer

Traditional Cuisine

€€€

Fancy a slap-up meal that won’t break the bank? The Brimers deliver just that – and with flair! Their magic formula: know-how, generosity and flavour. The chef works solely with premium produce, a passion he shares with his better half, who has a knack for foraging the tastiest mushrooms. Diners return again and again for familiar dishes like melt-in-the-mouth tenderloin served rare with a powerful pepper sauce, crunchy fries and subtle veggie sides. A feel-good, homely vibe reigns throughout this traditional hotel-restaurant.

Zum Simonbräu

German

€€

A down-to-earth pub, just the way we like them! Part of the Bitburger Brewery, this place has an attractive decor of solid wooden tables (no tablecloths here!), walls decorated with pictures, and modern details that foster a pleasantly lively atmosphere. The charming team serves home-style regional dishes, as well as more sophisticated options. Cordon bleu with Eifelschwein pork and "Ōra King salmon – tartare & fried" whet the appetite. The inexpensive dish of the day is popular with the lunchtime crowd. You can also spend the night in one of the spruce guestrooms.

Harald and Maximilian Rüssel, first encountered at their Michelin-starred Rüssels Landhaus establishment in Germany, add their own inimitable touch to a regional culinary lineup courtesy of a concise menu packed in big-boned flavours. Examples include impeccably prepared cod à la meunière is garnished with a pumpkin-flavoured risotto, crunchy broccoli and a velvety beurre blanc to die for. Indulgent family favourites with a dash of stylish elegance.

The ceiling-to-floor windows afford an impressive view of Trier, and the terrace is a particularly sought-after spot in this regard! Savour fresh, contemporary dishes made from good-quality ingredients and washed down with regional wines. The young team in charge of serving you are charming and professional. Schloss Monaise

Classic French

With Hubert Scheid's cuisine, this place is nothing short of a culinary institution in the region. His signature style comprises pleasantly straightforward dishes made from excellent ingredients – served à la carte or as a set menu. The restaurant occupies stylish, high-ceilinged rooms that channel the stately flair of these premises dating back to 1783 – once a summer residence. Or you can dine on the wonderful terrace with a view of the surrounding nature and the Moselle. It's also worth taking a look at the wine list, which features many a big name.
