Forte del 48

Venetian, Country cooking

€€

This pleasant restaurant started life in 1848 as a bastion used by the Habsburg army and was later transformed into an inn. Recognised as a “Locale Storico Veneto”, it’s now run by the third generation of the De Faveri family who serve traditional meat and fish dishes here. Comfortable guestrooms are also available for guests wishing to extend their stay.

Gellivs

Modern Cuisine, Creative · ★ Michelin

€€€€

Gellivs boasts a unique and atmospheric setting within the Antica Opitergium museum, surrounded by archaeological remains that tell the story of the town from the beginning of the Roman period, although the contemporary-style furniture and decor here bring us right into the modern day. Here, chef Alessandro Breda creates cuisine that is reassuringly traditional in dishes such as potato mousse, cooked and raw cod, quince and puntarella greens, and more modern in specialities such as the Treviso-Tokyo lobster. An impressive wine list which includes Italian and international labels completes the

Venissa

Country cooking, Contemporary · ★ Michelin

€€€€

Far away from the tourist hordes, Venissa is situated in a small walled vineyard dating back to the Middle Ages – complete with 14C belltower – on the small island of Mazzorbo, a magical setting which is perfect for a short stroll before settling down to eat. In addition to the Dorona di Venezia vineyard, the restaurant also has a kitchen garden which provides most of its vegetables, including unusual varieties such as “castraure”, a type of local artichoke. Once out of the garden, you come to a small wooden bridge which links Mazzorbo to neighbouring Burano, where you can complete your visit

Menegaldo

Seafood, Classic Cuisine

€€€

Menegaldo is a long-established favourite for anyone who loves authentic fish dishes made from top-quality ingredients. Although it feels as though time has stood still in the pleasantly old-fashioned dining room, with its outmoded decor and furnishings, the service here is attentive and enthusiastic. The dishes are traditional and typical of the area, making this an excellent choice for delicious seafood cuisine that is elaborate without being overly fussy.

Da Guido

Seafood, Seasonal Cuisine

€€€

The story of this restaurant began in 1967, when Guido and Giovanna Fasan, both of whom still work front of house, met in Germany. They then moved back to Italy, where they opened Da Guido in the early 1990s. White dominates in the elegant, contemporary-style dining room, while the cuisine features delicious seafood dishes with a focus on grilled specialities. In summer, there’s a welcoming bar in the garden, which boasts a romantic atmosphere. Together with other restaurant-owners from Venice, the Fasan family also have a kitchen garden on the Venetian island of Sant’Erasmo, where they focus

Da Odino

Seafood, Venetian

€€

This restaurant has stood on this square for many years, having been built as a “casone” and previously used as a dance hall. Despite its large size, the atmosphere is pleasant and convivial, helped by the staff here who are friendly yet professional. Situated just a stone’s throw from the Park Hotel Junior, a modern hotel under the same ownership, the restaurant specialises in fish and seafood, although you’ll also find meat and vegetarian options on the menu.
