Located in the bougainvillea-strewn Grand Velas hotel, this plush oceanfront restaurant is sophisticated, amplified by the resort-formal dress code. The terrace is a nice spot for bites and cocktails, and a few choice tables overlook a koi pond. Two multicourse tasting menus are threaded with global elements and inspirations, and this is a kitchen unafraid of taking risks, especially when it comes to flavor combinations. Start with small plates like a bluefin tuna tart with uni, ginger and lemon. Depending on which menu is selected, diners may encounter entrees like triple-seared angus beef or

Flora's Field Kitchen

Originally opened by Gloria and Patrick Greene as an organic farm, this ever-so-charming spot has evolved since the late 90s and now features a wine and coffee bar, as well as shops set among the mango trees and this restaurant. It's family run and all heart—they grow their own produce, raise chickens, have an onsite butcher program, and bake all the breads, too. The tempting menu features offerings such as Neapolitan flatbreads, salads, and lighter starters like a flavorful gazpacho. From there choose one of their sandwiches, or an entrée like the pork chop with crispy potatoes. Portion sizes

Located in El Pescadero along the highway that leads from Cabo to Todo Santos, this multi- concept space includes a farm shop, as well as a full-service restaurant, set outside within the garden. The contemporary menu leans Mexican with Californian elements, and the cooking is simplified to allow the ingredients to take center stage. Take the tomatoes, for instance. Layered slices topped with Kalamata olives over a coarse basil pesto prove that the best dishes don't need much intervention. Batter-dipped fried fish or the shaved ribeye are winning taco choices. Then, for dessert, the soft vanil

Located in Cabo San Lucas across the highway from the line-up of hotels, this spot down a dirt road is welcoming and attractive. A white stucco entryway leads to a dining area, a portion of which is arranged on a stone patio shaded by trees strung with lights. The kitchen and tiled bar are also open-air.Metate translates to a shallow stone used for grinding maize or other grains, while the foundation of the menu is antojitos and grilled meats cooked over a wood fire. The tacos Baja presents a duo of blue corn tortillas topped with morsels of flaky white fish encased in squid ink-tinted batter

Up a dusty road is this jungle resort where you'll discover an animal sanctuary, villas and treehouses, and this chic, open-air restaurant where fans swirl overhead and misters keep the abundant greenery at its peak. The casual, contemporary Mexican cooking is punched up with Asian influences, and the simple-but-stylish dishes are as gorgeous as the delightful setting. Guacamole is a perfect opener, with a bowl that's pitch-perfect in flavor but equally impressive with its looks (think flower petals as a flourish). Ceviche in a fresh, sweet mango sauce with leche de tigre is a riot of color be

Just outside of San José del Cabo, this farm to table, open-air restaurant is the showpiece of Chef Guillermo J. Gómez, who displays his affection for local ingredients on a menu divided by garden, sea, roots, and live fire. Begin with bread crafted from blue corn and organic whole wheat then grilled over a live fire and set with a puree of seasonal vegetables. Appetizers are equally enticing, as in the yellowtail jack that's gently grilled, then sliced sashimi-style and served with a coconut aguachile and plantain puree. There's sure to be a crowd at this Arts District charmer, housed in a casita dating back to the 1940s. The space is fronted by umbrella-shaded tables facing a papel picado-strewn street. Inside and out back, it's all quite comfortable. This casual bistro serves throughout the day, and there is a coffee counter and display case of conchas, croissants and donuts, among other treats. More substantial offerings include cheese and charcuterie, salads, sandwiches and wood-fired pizza. At brunch, order the chilaquiles (available only Friday-Sunday), served in a skillet with crisp yellow corn tortilla

Omakai

Located near the heart of San Jose del Cabo, Omakai sports a serene Mexican minimalist design while putting Japanese cuisine front and center. There are three menus to choose from, but whether you choose the teppanyaki tasting menu, the omakase, or select from the a la carte offerings, you can't go wrong. Those who opt for the omakase will find good quality, with many of the fish sourced from the local waters of La Paz and Ensenada. House-made pork belly gyoza are executed flawlessly, while the nigiri leans traditional at first, becoming more complex as the meal progresses. Seared salmon toppe
