There is a snug, rustic feel to this old inn, where service is warm under the direction of the proprietress – a charming lady from Styria and a superb hostess. In the kitchen, a father-and-son team prepares flavoursome dishes using good-quality ingredients. The menu is divided into two sections: classic Swabian dishes such as Kutteln in Lemberger (tripe cooked in red wine) or house-made Maultaschen, and sophisticated dishes like pan-fried Breton monkfish on parsley root purée in lemon beurre blanc with tomato and spinach, and wild garlic risotto. An old jukebox provides the background music. T

This restaurant enjoys a wonderful location in the middle Baden-Württemberg's oldest nature reserve and boasts stunning views – it's well worth booking a table on the terrace. In what was once the dairy of the over 300-year-old farmstead, diners are pampered with delicious food and attentive service. The modern cuisine incorporates classic and regional influences, as well as international, sometimes Asian touches. The former barn of the heritage-protected estate has been transformed into a hotel with attractive and cosy minimalist-style guestrooms. Tip: Take the time to look around the art mus

A visit to this delightful village is definitely worthwhile! Originally a bakery and café, this family-run establishment has evolved into a restaurant serving flavoursome, meticulously prepared dishes that take their cue from the changing seasons. As well as à la carte options, there is a choice of set menus. The upscale setting has a classic aesthetic. Attentive service comes courtesy of a well-organised and adept front-of-house team. A must in the afternoon: the delicious freshly baked cakes! Pretty guestrooms.

Gasthof Hirsch

Classic Cuisine, Country cooking

€€

Set in the centre of this Black Forest village, this attractive restaurant dating back to 1748 is popular for its robust cuisine with classic foundations and plenty of flavour – the sauces are also fantastic! This is all testament to the skill of owner Thomas Zimmermann, who uses select ingredients in his dishes. The atmosphere, too, is just right, thanks to the lovely decor and the exceedingly friendly, attentive hostess. Tip: There are also some individually designed, upscale guestrooms for overnight stays.
