PURS NEW NORDIC JAPANESE CUISINE

Fusion, Modern Cuisine · ★ Michelin

€€€€

Peter Fridén, of YOSO fame, has brought his "New Nordic Japanese Cuisine" to the 17C Alte Kanzlei, the interior of which has been tastefully designed by Axel Vervoordt. In a small side street adjacent to the boutique hotel PURS, this beautiful building houses a chic restaurant decorated in muted tones. Inside, the eye is drawn to the artwork on the walls and the open kitchen, visible through a glass sliding door, where Fridén brings together three different cuisines. Born in South Korea, he grew up in Sweden, and is schooled in the French culinary arts. His six-course tasting menu (vegetarian

Ai Pero

€€

This is just the kind of Italian restaurant you always hope to find! In an invitingly lively and modern setting, diners sit at small wooden tables to savour fresh Italian dishes to an apt musical backdrop. The quality of the ingredients, the craftsmanship and flavours are all spot on – and the prices are fair, too. Excellent house-made pasta and pizzas from the wood-fired oven are, of course, an essential part of the offering. The beautiful Old Town is perfect for a post-prandial stroll. Good to know: From Tue to Sat, the kitchen is open throughout the day. Incidentally, Ai Pero belongs to PUR

Serving up sushi and sashimi, as well as dishes such as shoyu ramen, bao chasu and chicken yakitori, he is dedicated to showcasing Far Eastern flavours. Perfectly suited for sharing, these dishes can also be ordered online to take away. The dining space has a chic urban feel, featuring sleek modern design with a Far Eastern touch. The restaurant is located in the historical centre of Andernach right by the boutique hotel Am Ochsentor. Italian trattoria Ai Pero is next door.

In summer, the gorgeous terrace beckons. In addition, MA PETITE CHAMBRE is a small gourmet haven serving a set menu. They have four well-kept guestrooms for overnight stays.

Expert wine recommendations come courtesy of the cordial and proficient service team. The food is modern but grounded in the classics, with the chef-patron rustling up a six- to eight-course set menu out of top-notch ingredients. The restaurant has just four tables, for up to 12 guests, so be sure to book!
