This restaurant occupies the former family home of the German architect Ernst Zillers, who came to Athens to design some of its public buildings, fell in love with the city and remained here for the rest of his life. The building, which is situated next to the Greek Orthodox cathedral and has now been converted into a hotel (Zillers Boutique Hotel), boasts a rooftop terrace and multi-purpose Roof Garden with fine view of the cathedral and the Acropolis. The Zillers restaurant is only open in the evening and chef Vasilis Roussos offers two tasting menus: Synecdoche and Synthesis, both with crea

Located at the foot of the Parthenon, this restaurant comes as something of a surprise for various reasons. Firstly, for the stunning view from its terrace; secondly, for its setting, in a historic building that was once the country’s first inn, with a decor that ensures a unique experience enabling guests to view its historic vestiges through the glass floor in the dining room; and, lastly, its cuisine, the main attraction, which comes courtesy of chef Patron Petros Dimas and which showcases the country’s gastronomic heritage through dishes that are creative and impeccable technique. There are just a few restaurants capable of creating a connection between food, nature and a love of one’s country, but here chef Tasos Mantis manages to express his full passion for all three through his cooking. The experience starts with a presentation of the stars of the show here, namely the aromatic herbs used in Soil’s dishes, many of which are sourced from the vegetable garden tended by the chef’s father. The cuisine is highlighted on a single tasting menu which showcases creativity and quality, which can be enjoyed either at the chef’s table, in the bright lounge or in the pleasant wi
