Maltes hidden kitchen

Modern Cuisine, Creative · ★ Michelin

This interesting dual concept of coffee shop and restaurant is to be found in the picturesque pedestrian area. In the evening, the restaurant serves modern dishes by chef-patron Malte Kuhn and his team – prepared in the "hidden kitchen" behind a sliding wall. They skilfully pare things down to the essentials, making the ingredients the focus, as in, for example, the fantastic char poached in oil, served with a crustacean foam on leaf spinach and accompanied by fine trout caviar. You can also pick individual dishes from the three- to six-course set menu. A vegetarian variation on the set menu o

Sophie and Stéphan Bernhard have made it their mission to indulge the diners of this city since 1998. Now they operate in the Stahlbad, a beautiful 19C building and former spa hotel in the centre of Baden-Baden, and also previously home to a Michelin-starred restaurant. A delightful ground-level conservatory affords views of the verdant surroundings and converts into a covered terrace in summer. The classic French cuisine by the chef-patron, a native Frenchman, is as much in great demand as it ever was. The dishes are ingredient-led, clearly structured and wonderfully harmonious. This lovely wine tavern may be somewhat hidden away in its pleasantly quiet location, but it is well worth seeking out – especially in summer, when the charming secluded courtyard terrace comes into its own. Along with a relaxed atmosphere with rustic charm and friendly service, diners can look forward to an array of different flammkuchen, speciality mussel dishes and regional classics. The seasonal specials of the day are written up on a wooden board or presented verbally. The restaurant has plenty of regulars and is always busy, so it's advisable to make a reservation!

An impressive cross vault, elegant dark tones, designer elements, works of art – these former stables overlooking the city and a stone's throw from the New Castle have been stylishly converted. Drawing on modern influences, a three- to eight-course set menu is served – Beef tartare (classically prepared at the table) is available as an optional extra course. There is also a chic bar for an aperitif or digestif. Tip: You can reach the restaurant from the pedestrian area via the Burgstaffeln steps. There are several car parking spaces in front of the restaurant.

This restaurant boasts a fantastic location on Lichtentaler Allee, right next to the Museum Frieder Burda and Museum LA8. In the clean-lined conservatory of the beautiful historic building, you can tuck into an appealing three-course lunch set menu as well as "petites bouchées" such as French onion tart or croque monsieur. In the evening, the cuisine moves up a gear, with dishes such as marinated venison loin with Waldorf salad or wild-caught monkfish with braised pointed cabbage and chorizo. Eduard Knecht, who previously cooked at Alte Baiz in Neuhausen, heads up the kitchen. In summer, the t

The tastefully designed conservatory restaurant of the long-established Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa is a light and airy space with floor-to-ceiling glazing that affords a splendid view of the leafy gardens – and the terrace is, of course, especially inviting. In the evening, the classic and seasonal dishes can be enjoyed as a set menu or ordered à la carte. Vegetarian options are also available. A three-course set menu is served at lunchtime from Monday to Friday.

If you have always wanted to treat yourself to a spot of fine dining in the historical surroundings of a castle, then Schloss Eberstein is the place for you. Perched on a hilltop above the Murg Valley and surrounded by vines, it commands stunning views! Set on a magnificent historical estate, this lovely hotel with two dining options is run by the Werner family. The elegant fine dining restaurant has made a name for itself with its modern take on classical cuisine. Chef-patron Bernd Werner presides over a dedicated kitchen team that brings balance and intense flavours to the plate. The wine li

Situated very close to the Festspielhaus (opera and concert house), the restaurant of Roomers hotel serves pan-Asian cuisine and a wide range of sushi. The menu reads, for example, "sake teriyaki – Scottish salmon, teriyaki glaze, sweet cucumber, rice". In a setting that is upscale and very much on trend, a young and enthusiastic front-of-house team provides competent service while maintaining a laid-back atmosphere.
