La Grappe d'Or
French Contemporary, Creative French · ★ Michelin

Eminently in tune with his region, Clément Petitjean is a proud ambassador of his province of Luxemburg and also of Gaume. This is illustrated by the extremely close ties he has forged with local producers. The view of the meadows and the natural slant of the contemporary interior incite the diner to commune with nature, particularly beneath the fine-meshed cloud structures hanging from the ceiling. A fire burning in the hearth further adds to the friendly, home-from-home vibe in the lounge. Make your pick from the sommelier’s splendid cocktail trolley, before sampling Petitjean’s felicitous c

Crispy grey shrimps with a frothy espuma of cod and samphire: the signature appetiser illustrates the calibre of the experience you can expect in this former apothecary, which sports an authentic herringbone parquet floor and warm fabrics strewn in subtle industrial references. We won’t say more as chef Mathieu Van Wetteren voluntarily preserves the mystery, as is the case of his surprise menu. With a painstaking eye for detail, his creative streak refrains from falling into the trap of overworking his recipes and aims more for simplicity and purity, with the occasional Japanese accent. De la terre à l'assiette

Magali and Guillaume Lempens’ colourful venue is the quintessence of comfortable and steeped in feelgood vibes, a large proportion of which are courtesy of their bistronomic cuisine. The latter includes fried cod flanked by a subtle bouillabaisse, white asparagus, homemade gnocchi and a knockout aioli mayonnaise. Big-boned, punchy sauces and impeccable technique bear witness to the experience of seasoned chef Guillaume. Rather than fussy frills, you can expect wholehearted authenticity and no-nonsense rustic fare.

Guillou Campagne
Classic French · ★ Michelin
€€€€
Fans of Gallic fare adore Guillou Campagne. This family-run restaurant was for many years in the hands of Pierrick Guillou and the chefs he trained continue to pay tribute to his legacy on a daily basis. Lysianne and Katell, his widow and daughter, also continue to uphold the family tradition of hospitality in this old stone edifice flanked by an exquisite garden terrace. Authenticity and intensity are the watchwords of Guillou Campagne, so you can expect lashings of cream and butter and ingredients such as foie gras and scallops. The focus is primarily on wholesome, hearty flavours, rather th

Le Jardin de la Gaichel
Classic Cuisine

The cosy Jardin de la Gaichel is perfectly suited to its woodland surroundings and commands a splendid view of the huge garden. The chefs excel at crafting textbook perfect cuisine using traditional produce of outstanding quality, such as premium scallops. Examples include a generous slab of fish glazed in a subtle white wine sauce, while a heady mix of sweet and powerful flavours envelopes Challans duck, carved tableside (by reservation) or an amazing seafood platter (also by reservation)… This is unadulterated, uncensored generosity. We recommend staying overnight in one of the guestrooms to

La Régalade
Farm to table, Modern Cuisine
€€€
Relaxed and friendly describe both the village of Toernich and the Régalade. The chef has restored his grandparents’ farmstead, tastefully mixing modern and authentic details, hence the brick walls. He specialises in painstakingly crafted cuisine packed in Gallic overtones that results in recipes in tune with their era. Respectfully executed and underscored by fascinating textures. An example: juicy seabass with a crispy skin paired with mashed potatoes, chunks of creamy squash and a gutsy veggie gravy. A restaurant that truly lives up to its name.

Aal Schoul
Meats and Grills, Country cooking
€€€
The school bench at the entrance and the blackboard pay tribute to Aal Schoul’s former vocation as a village school; it is now a warm eatery adorned in huge works of art. Red meat is omnipresent on the menu, but the chef’s bold, unconventional recipes are what most intrigue. For example, his recipe for poultry breasts rolls out a whole series of cooking techniques, while his highly individual take on a Caesar Salad features a sweet-sour vinaigrette with pili that adds a distinctive kick to the entire dish. An intriguing meal awaits you at Aal Schoul!

This friendly family brasserie is not far from the busy N4 highway, but as soon as you see the rolling Ardennes countryside, your peace of mind is restored. The interior is steeped in the charm and nostalgia of the inns of yesteryear. Chef Frédéric Bolis finds his inspiration in purebred French classics, to which he is not averse to adding a generous modern spin. Perfectly poached egg in velvety mushroom soup with wild mushrooms and gutsy Ardennes cured ham: the quintessence of fine country fare, as is the case of the meat cooked in a Josper charcoal oven and the punchy sauces.
