Ikaro
basque, riojana, ecuatoriana · ★ Michelin
€€€
Behind Ikaro’s façade, you’ll find a strong work ethic, enthusiasm and creativity in equal measure, along with the beautiful story of a dream come true. Here, couple Carolina Sánchez (from Cuenca in Ecuador) and Iñaki Murua (from Laguardia in Spain) are two chefs who now combine their working and personal lives after meeting at the Basque Culinary Center. Their attractive yet humble cuisine will surprise guests with its high level of technique, combining their respective culinary worlds: the superb bounty of La Rioja is enhanced by the fruits and condiments of Ecuador, resulting in dishes with

A restaurant that will delight guests both for its gourmet cuisine and the love story that is behind it. The dreams and sense of excitement evident within its walls developed relatively recently when the two chefs at the helm met while working with celebrated chef Jordi Cruz at the three-Michelin-starred ABaC. Mariana Sánchez, originally from Cuernavaca (Mexico), and Gonzalo Baquedano, who hails from Logroño, showcase their skills on an à la carte and a tasting menu (in the evening, the latter is combined with another shorter menu option) that showcase the fusion between Mexican and La Rioja c

Kiro Sushi

Kiro translates as “homeward journey” and as such symbolises what this restaurant means to Félix Jiménez who, dressed in his spotless kimono, demonstrates the full array of skills he acquired in Japan. There, under the tutelage of maestro Yoshikawa Takamasa, he discovered the Edomae technique of preparing sushi, its tradition, the mystical meaning of its rules, and the secrets of Koshihikari rice… to create the perfect nigiri you need to remain faithful to the time-honoured Shokunin philosophy. These premises are already a place of culinary pilgrimage given that behind the front door (which is

La Cocina de Ramón

€€
A pleasant restaurant with plenty of personality that reflects the long love affair between owner-chef Ramón Piñeiro and his kitchen. Located in one of the main streets in Logroño’s old quarter, just a few metres from the cathedral, its heavily restored interior of open brickwork provides a warm and welcoming backdrop for cuisine that is strongly influenced by market availability and traditional home-style cooking that has been brought up-to-date and is constantly evolving (every day they make a different stew: Pochas, Caparrones, Patatas a la riojana...). Any of the dishes on the menu that sh

A contemporary, family-run restaurant offering what they define here as “contemporary Rioja cooking”. The cuisine is showcased on an impressive à la carte and two set menus (Mercado and Cruce de Caminos) based around traditional recipes from the region which have given a modern twist and an added international touch, and make the most of the very best local products. We particularly enjoyed the cod cheeks with a pilpil sauce, a dish that they also make with hake.

This restaurant with its young, relaxed feel, stands out for its central location in front of the co-cathedral and for the closeness of the two chef-owners (Rafa Gaona and Álex Modruj), who make the experience very special indeed. Their proposal, with modern and tremendously tasty flavours, takes seasonal products from La Rioja as a base and exhibits contemporary techniques, without closing the door to influences from other cultures. Here everything revolves around two tasting menus (Corto Sabores and Sabores) and we loved the dish they call ‘Nuestra versión del bacalao Ajoarriero’ (Our Ajoarr

Umm No Solo Tapas

In this small restaurant, just a few metres from the cathedral, they are fully aware that guests are initially attracted by appearance and that as soon as they walk through the door their appetites will take over! Choose between a huge variety of tapas and raciones (toasted options, sandwiches, high-quality canned ingredients, small plates for sharing etc) that are served at the bar counter or a few high tables. Don’t miss the super-creamy and delicious ham croquettes.

Alameda

€€
This family-run restaurant, located next door to the Santa María church, is a respected name in the hospitality sector thanks to the high quality of its ingredients. Grilled fish and meat are the highlights on the menu, although it’s well worth looking at Alameda’s daily specials as it only uses seasonal ingredients that will never disappoint (this is definitely the case with the fried artichokes with langoustines that we ordered). However, many of its guests come here with only one thing in mind – the famous ribeye steak!
