After a successful stint at two-star restaurant 7132 Silver in Vals, Mitja Birlo has made the move to Zurich. In an impressive building next to the main train station – a prime city-centre location – he presents a cosmopolitan culinary concept that is truly one of a kind. In a relaxed, modern and elegant setting, diners take their seats on comfortable bar chairs at the counter right next to the open kitchen to observe the numerous exciting delicacies comprising the surprise menu being created – with the dishes explained by the chefs themselves. A special experience for which it is worth settin

Widder Restaurant

In the chic fine dining restaurant of the luxurious Widder boutique hotel, chef Stefan Heilemann and his team skilfully bridge the gap between classic and modern, drawing on international influences. Thoughtful preparation and precise technique go into the elegant dishes. The set menu starts as it means to go on, with a veritable explosion of flavours, in the form of light bites such as a fluffy bao bun filled with pulled goulash and amuse-bouches including tender, delicately sweet Algarve prawns with a refined cauliflower foam and crispy frosted herb pearls. The culinary delight continues wit

Sharing, Modern Cuisine · ★★ Michelin

Andreas Caminada is the man behind this fabulous venture in the Marktgasse Hotel, located in the heart of the historical district on the right bank of the River Limmat. The beautiful, classically styled bar (perfect for pre-dinner drinks) leads into the elegantly appointed restaurant, designed by Patricia Urquiola. The set menu is devised for sharing. Chef Daniel Zeindlhofer remains true to the IGNIV philosophy while incorporating his own ideas. The focus is on both his technical skill and the outstanding ingredients. The numerous small dishes are meticulously crafted without unnecessary embel

The lively atmosphere here is reminiscent of a modern gastropub. Thanks to its really friendly, down-to-earth service and relaxed setting, this place is ideal for lunch with friends or an enjoyable dinner. Under the guidance of Fabian Fuchs, vegetarian dishes – sometimes even vegan – are prepared in the open kitchen. The dining experience is centred on sharing – three to four dishes from the seasonal menu per person is about right. The flavoursome dishes are made with carefully selected vegetables, such as aubergine with miso, wasabi sesame and cashew, or Pizokel (buckwheat dumplings), Périgor

Located on the first floor of the Hotel Storchen, La Rôtisserie is every bit as tastefully decorated as the establishment that houses it – which was first mentioned in the 14C. It has a beautiful dining room with high ceilings, large arched windows and elegant, high-quality furnishings – this is a traditional yet contemporary affair. In the kitchen, the chefs work with precision and great skill to produce their own modern, international take on classic cuisine. In fine weather, be sure to head out onto the fantastic terrace – from this wonderful old-town location you can take in views of the L

In the centre of Zurich, right next to the Münsterhof square, this compact restaurant is tucked away in a side street. The concept is "counter dining": guests take their seats at the counter for an eight-course set menu that takes its cue from the seasons and is made from excellent ingredients. The cuisine is Asian, with an emphasis on seafood. Shining examples of dishes include "golden garlic oyster royale – hint of chilli", "langoustine broth with corn harmony" and Peking duck. A choice of sake, wine or alcohol-free beverages complements the food. Hostess Lin Wang is always on hand and will

Italian fine dining is the order of the day in the restaurant of the stylish Mandarin Oriental Savoy, a hotel dating back to 1838. The restaurant is accessible via a separate entrance on Waaggasse. The interior is refined and elegant, the Italian cuisine of Dario Moresco creative and modern – the dishes often play with bold contrasts, yet remain beautifully balanced. Executed with subtle finesse and a memorable flavour profile, a standout is the gossamer-thin, delicate nettle tagliolini, nicely al dente and served with buttermilk sauce, segments of a remarkably aromatic poached oyster and a sa
