A not-too-imposing and rather romantic manor house, a magical view of the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel... and a true culinary epic. After a first life in the merchant navy, Hugo Roellinger refined his kitchen craft with modesty; today, his menu "At the whim of the wind and the moon" is a poetic voyage which holds you breathless from start to finish and offers a particularly personal vision of Brittany. Here, seafood is magnified with fluidity, delicacy and a naturalness that is stunning, like this lobster in two ways, with its sauces of rare complexity. This is a cuisine that speaks with directnes

Once a transport café between Saint-Malo and Mont-Saint-Michel, this establishment has been transformed by Marine Hervouet (trained by Alain Passard and Bruno Verjus) and Pascaline Albicini (taught by Robuchon and Etchebest). The premises have been renovated in a bucolic style characterised by exposed stone and contemporary wooden furniture and exude the warmth of a family home. The menu, focused on carefully selected local produce, is exceedingly high calibre. With flambéed tomato compote and a tomato caramel sauce, the vegetable agnolotti impresses with its aromatic depth. This Franco-Japanese gourmet establishment is on the first floor of a crêperie: welcome to the world of Bertrand Larcher. A champion of buckwheat and Brittany’s culture, Larcher first opened a string of pancake houses in Japan, before doing the same in France with the same success. Now in a dining room overlooking the bay of Mont Saint Michel, chef Raphaël-Fumio Kudaka blends Breton produce with Japanese techniques and seasonings. Sautéed monkfish, langoustine, agedashi of koya-tofu and daikon and a thick shellfish broth; buckwheat soba noodles, gutsy stock of dried Brittany bonito and kombu,

On the port of Cancale, Breizh Café has one motto: "A new take on crêpes." After all, the concept was originally born in Japan! The owner, Bertrand Larcher, was the first to export Brittany's galettes (buckwheat pancakes) to Tokyo, and several Japanese restaurants later, he has opened one back home. The produce is premium and organic (eggs, cheese, meat) and the crispy flavoursome galettes and wafer-thin, soft pancakes are made entirely traditionally. The filling depends on your fancy, ranging from classical to unusual: artichoke rolls, spider crab, Comté cheese and Saint Malo wakame seaweed.

Bistrot 1936 - Domaine du Limonay

The latest addition to the Maison Tirel-Guérin stable (established back in 1936) is this bistro firmly rooted in the current century, with its lovely choice of materials (light-coloured wood and exposed beams) and its bay windows that invite the light to flood in. The menu, overseen by the chef of the fine dining restaurant, features mouthwatering top-quality ingredients, such as poularde, foie gras and spider crab. The delicious farm-reared pork – grilled belly and a wafer-thin slice of andouille – was a particular hit with its delicious Roscoff onion jus.

This hostelry founded in 1936 is a fine dining establishment whose delicate, creative recipes celebrate Brittany’s splendid produce: seafood from Saint Malo Bay, lamb from the salt marshes, buckwheat… A gourmet experience in every sense of the word, further enhanced by the chef’s inimitable flair for jus and sauces.

Who could turn down a platter of Cancale oysters, scallops and abalone (the restaurant’s namesake)? Even better when served with a splendid view of the fleet of fishing boats that guarantees their freshness! A stylish interior fronted by a pleasant terrace sets the scene for premium seafood dishes, such as razor clams stuffed with parsley, garlic and butter, home-made fish soup or local scallops roasted on the shell, white butter and vegetable risotto. Round off your meal on a sweet note with a pancaked stuffed with warm apples for example.

Star-studded chef, Ludovic Dirscheri, has set up shop in this picture postcard Brittany village. His refined bill of fare mingles local and exotic inspirations. Carpaccio of scallops in olive oil with a coulis of beetroot, loin of roast boar flanked by cream of parsnips and a red wine gravy, or a pistachio flavoured kouign-amann with halva ice cream are just some of the dishes from the enticing, well-crafted menu. The interior sports untreated wood cladding and bare local stone walls, creating a cosy setting that is ideal to sample a tasting menu that won’t break the bank.
