Set in the centre of this Black Forest village, this attractive restaurant dating back to 1748 is popular for its robust cuisine with classic foundations and plenty of flavour – the sauces are also fantastic! This is all testament to the skill of owner Thomas Zimmermann, who uses select ingredients in his dishes. The atmosphere, too, is just right, thanks to the lovely decor and the exceedingly friendly, attentive hostess. Tip: There are also some individually designed, upscale guestrooms for overnight stays.

Chef Markus Klein and his wife put their heart and soul into running this restaurant. In a spruce rustic-style decor – or out on the lovely terrace in summer – friendly waitstaff serve up delicious regional and seasonal cuisine made using good-quality ingredients. House specialties include golden trout and brown trout, sourced from Lohmühle trout farm in Alpirsbach. Good to know: Hot meals are served from noon to 8pm. Tip for overnight guests: Ask for the "Wohlfühl" or "Komfort" guestrooms.

Stüble is the tasteful, rustic-style à la carte restaurant of Wellness Lauterbad, a chic spa hotel. In the cosy and comfortable wood-panelled space, the service is friendly and attentive. The regional and seasonal cuisine has international influences. Order à la carte or plump for a three- or four-course set menu. In summer, you can drink in the view of the countryside from the terrace.
