Thomas Scheucher's restaurant champions a pleasingly pared-back take on classic cuisine that highlights top-quality ingredients and delivers full flavour with charming simplicity. The menu features dishes such as vitello tonnato made from Andelsbuch veal topside and garnished with caper blossoms, and Lake Constance whitefish fillet with aubergine relish, lime and basil broth, and olive gnocchi. The decor is both tasteful and inviting, with modern artwork and designer lamps adding a touch of elegance. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out onto the garden, where a lovely terrace is set up in summer.

The popularity of this place is down to the pleasant combination of café and brasserie, the great location in the centre of the old town – and the delicious food. In this centuries-old building (in which it started out as an inn in 1911), in a charming, understated decor, guests enjoy dishes such as beef tartare, pasta, risotto or coq au vin, and then of course there is the house speciality: mussels. This listed building lies in the heart of Bregenz, in a side street not far from the town hall. It has welcomed diners for over 160 years. Historical rustic-style elements such as old floorboards and wood-panelled ceilings and walls have been beautifully combined with modern interior design details. In a magnificent location just a stone's throw from Lake Constance, the Seehotel am Kaiserstrand has plenty to offer, and the restaurant is definitely a huge draw. Upscale and modern, it also boasts a gorgeous terrace overlooking the lake. Choose from a nicely devised à la carte menu of mouthwatering dishes such as "goat's cheese crème brûlée, beetroot, walnut, pumpernickel, pine honey" or "braised wild hare leg with Brussels sprouts and sweet-potato pavé".
