Selby's
American, Classic Cuisine · ★ Michelin
$$$$
This destination-worthy restaurant drips with old-school Hollywood charm, matched by the seemingly effortless poise of the sharply dressed service team. The kitchen team excels at modern takes on classic American cuisine, which get an extra boost from SMIP Ranch—their private farm. Your dinner may begin with a fresh-baked Gruyère popover before moving on to an elegant take on vichyssoise. Steaks are cooked to perfection, while butter-poached Maine lobster with golden potato gnocchi and black trumpet mushrooms is a worthy order. The refined take on nostalgic favorites continues through dessert.

The Village Pub

$$$
Don’t be fooled by the quaint name; this is a sophisticated operation, with posh décor and gracefully professional service. A three-course prix fixe menu offers guests a variety of options, with starters like Dungeness crab salad accented with celery root and apple, or a signature raviolo filled with molten egg yolk and buttery potato, and mains like seared dry-aged duck breast or caramelized black cod. Happily, every meal begins with wonderfully fluffy, golden brown Parker House rolls, served warm with Vermont butter. To finish, you might consider a chocolate soufflé with Grand Marnier crème

This discreet nook offers an elegant refuge from the quaint bustle of downtown Redwood City, and in turn offers some of the best sushi in town. Chef Jason Zhan manages the counter with aplomb and no shortage of charm, skillfully assembling a distinctive omakase featuring carefully sourced, seasonal seafood. At dinner, guests can select either a standard menu, or a pricier “premium” version that gilds the lily with rarer delicacies, while at lunch a single abbreviated menu is offered. The meal begins with a procession of small plates, which might include unique offerings like tempura-fried gree

Named after Mexico City’s massive seafood market, La Viga is a Redwood City favorite for oceanic fare with a Latin twist. Wedged between an industrial area and downtown, the basic but cheerful dining room draws a casual lunchtime crowd here for heaping tacos—soft white corn tortillas stuffed with fried snapper fillet, cabbage and chipotle crema; or crisp prawns with tomatillo-garlic sauce and pico de gallo. At the dinner hour, residents stream in for the famed tallarines con mariscos, a sizable mound of al dente fideos studded with pristine seafood cooked in a spicy tomato sauce. Wakuriya

Innovative, serious and well-established, Wakuriya successfully blends a deep respect for the kaiseki tradition with a contemporary touch. This is largely thanks to the lone chef behind the counter, Katsuhiro Yamasaki; his wife deftly manages the dining room. Each month brings a new, refined menu that combines the chef’s personal style with superlative Japanese and Californian ingredients. Courses are uniquely presented, as in a silver spoon cradling chunks of poached lobster with dashi gelée, soft-boiled Jidori egg and fried kombu. This may not be a sushiya, but the sashimi course is nonethele

Chef Srijith Gopinathan has struck gold once again with this swanky Menlo Park sensation, drawing in crowds with his inventive blend of regional Indian cuisine with a fresh Californian twist. To illustrate this singular approach, take a flaky, paratha-like flatbread filled with Dungeness crab and paired with a rich, complex sauce featuring fennel, poppy seeds, and mint. Wood-fired grills add an additional layer of interest, providing a robust char to the likes of lemon-grass scented gulf shrimp, chili-glazed celeriac and pineapple kebabs, and whole sea bream, as well as lending a subtle smoke

From the very first moment you walk into this unique Indian gem, you will feel right at home. Ever so transporting, the space is a veritable comfort zone—stylish, breezy, and inviting. Over in the kitchen, the cooks are focused on vibrant and sumptuous renderings from the nation's myriad of regions. While the best dishes tend to be more traditional at heart, they boast a host of intriguing garnishings. Kale pakoras are deep-fried fritters served with onions in a light chickpea batter and a spectrum of chutneys; while lamb curry reveals a leg of lamb slow braised with over 21 Indian spices. Ras

Celebrated culinary couple Meichih and Michael Kim make their return with this Menlo Park enclave, boasting a unique blend of Korean and Taiwanese flavors. Offered as a splurge-worthy à la carte, the menu is divided between canapés, appetizers and mains, with the latter two offering small portions intended for sharing. You might start with a bite-sized potato “jeon,” fried until crisp, with an oozing center, topped with Santa Barbara uni and prosciutto.
