If you’re unfamiliar with O’Pazo, one of Galicia’s most renowned restaurants for grilled cuisine, you’re long overdue a visit to dine in this unique space created by the Vidal brothers (with Óscar in the kitchen and Manuel in the dining room), where everything revolves around the wood-fired grill. At this restaurant, nestled inside the Hotel Scala although with its own entrance, they like to say that here you can go ‘to enjoy the best flavours of Galicia at your leisure’. In its bright dining room, with a minimalist atmosphere, you can sample cuisine based on Galician recipes, with contemporary starters with a traditional taste (we were blown away by the bluefin tuna belly sandwich), select meats, good seafood and large fish of the day. Their grilled dishes are particularly noteworthy!

In a traditional fishing community such as this one, famous for the quality of its clams, the quality of ingredients always takes centre stage. This simple family-run restaurant, which has breathed new life into a former bar, is run by a couple – two chefs with a focus on contemporary, seasonal cooking inspired by the sea. This is showcased on a concise à la carte and a tasting menu option (“where the sea takes me”). We particularly enjoyed the black monkfish with a pepitoria sauce.

Overlooking the Arousa estuary, and the curious sticks or poles that mark the cultivation parks where the famous Carril clams grow, O Loxe Mareiro has recovered an old traditional seafood restaurant. In this simple restaurant with a rustic-present-day atmosphere, which aside from the dining room has a charming terrace and a table in the kitchen, the proposal is totally focused on seafood products, always with a great deal of honesty and under the umbrella of both their small menu and a complete tasting menu (Arousa).
