Kappo

Japanese · ★ Michelin

€€€€

“Cut and cook” is the meaning of the Japanese term that gives this place its name, and today it surprises as much with its contemporary elegance as with its intimate feel. Heading up the cuts is chef Tiago Penão, whose mastery in fusing the traditional with the modern shows in dishes that are flavourful, precise and beautifully thought through. In a space with an L-shaped counter for 12 diners, the chef and his dedicated team bring a single omakase menu to life. Here, the excellence of the produce stands out in a very special way: the nigiris are spectacular, celebrating the quality of local f

If you’re keen to enjoy the charms of a typical Japanese inn in the centre of Cascais, this young and informal space located close to its older sibling Kappo could be the place. At the bar counter, you can choose between the impressive Omakase menu or another created by the chef according to your appetite when you place your order. The dining space here is illuminated by neon lights and the walls are covered with photographs of its past customers.

Maré - José Avillez

Seafood

€€€

This is the most maritime offering from the famous chef José Avillez and it sits in a privileged location, between Guincho and Cascais. Conceived as a tribute to the chef’s homeland, this restaurant boasts unrivalled views and is an outright invitation to savour the best of the Portuguese coast, with ultra-fresh fish and seafood displayed in the window of the open kitchen. Avillez’s signature menu, executed daily by chef Filipe Pina, presents dishes such as the flavourful Escabeche de fígado de bacalhau (cod liver in a vinegar‑marinade style), the Lombo de Corvina (sea bass loin) with olive oi
