But, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows, you don't have to miss out on the view if you sit inside the modern and elegant restaurant either. With its tasteful blend of historical features and upscale minimalist modern design, this former Capuchin monastery provides a wonderful setting for the restaurant. In the open kitchen, the team champions ingredients from Central Switzerland, supplemented by produce from the Alpine region. The evening features an appealing à la carte selection alongside a four-course "Tavolata" for the whole table, available as a surprise menu or with a main course of your own choice. Wherever you look, there's history – the old fortified tower is magnificent! After 33 years, the business has changed hands, but new owners Lukas and Evelyn Christen are committed to keeping the tradition alive. The menu continues to feature both regional and international dishes. Look out for the label "Guets vo hie" on the menu, which indicates the local specialities such as topside beef carpaccio with horseradish, red onions and fried mushrooms. The courtyard terrace is especially pleasant. Tip: This pretty restaurant also makes an ideal venue for weddings and other celebrations.

The location right by Lake Lucerne is fabulous! This modern bistro shares its premises with the fine dining restaurant and benefits from the same stunning views over the water. Here, too, Fabian Interbitzin and his team are responsible for the food, serving up contemporary French cuisine with the odd Mediterranean influence. The set menu comprises two to six courses, which can also be ordered à la carte. A range of classic dishes is also available. The cuisine is pleasingly accessible without sacrificing elegance.

The journey up to the village of Gurtnellen, at an altitude of 935m, is well worth it! Chef-owner Beat Walker is the fifth generation of his family to run this charming restaurant dating back to the 19C. He is assisted by Roland Gloor, who takes excellent care of diners.
