Hostellerie de la Pointe Saint-Mathieu

Modern Cuisine · ★ Michelin

Opposite the grandiose site of the headland of Saint Mathieu, this hostelry, which was opened by her grandparents in 1954 and then run by her parents, is now in the hands of Nolwenn Corre. The family business has kept pace with its era while respecting its heritage, courtesy of cutting-edge fixtures and fittings that rub shoulders with old stones and a huge fireplace. Plenty of poise and acres of ambition depict chef Nolwenn’s personality. Her dishes owe as much to her virtuoso skill as to the 100% local ingredients, including langoustines from Guilvinec, scallops from Brest harbour, fish from

L'Embrun

Modern Cuisine · ★ Michelin

After competing on French TV's Top Chef and working in the kitchens of chef Olivier Bellin at Auberge des Glazicks, Guillaume Pape is flourishing in his own restaurant set up in modern premises. Working in an open kitchen, he serves seasonal cuisine de terroir dedicated to high-quality ingredients. His creations include flambéed pollack with a Champagne sauce, served with butternut ravioli and shellfish. For dessert, his iconic "Douceur de Lait" is a tempting rice pudding mousse with dulce de leche, vanilla ice cream and milk opaline.

The chef and his partner have turned their former fine dining restaurant into a more convivial and relaxed eatery, aligning with the zeitgeist, with contemporary decor and an open kitchen. Romain, the chef, has not lost his touch and his market-fresh set menu is a masterclass of aromatic, flavoursome and deftly crafted recipes, such as hake steak with January king cabbage and a tarragon beurre blanc. Perfectly thought-out dishes, friendly and cheerful service, and excellent value for money. The customers are not mistaken; this place is a real winner!

The chef crafts cuisine in tune with the zeitgeist, wonderfully blending fish from the local catch and ingredients from Brittany's terroir, such as house-smoked salmon, tangy herb cream and buckwheat blini, or the blanquette of monkfish and Molène sausage, vegetables and steamed potatoes. The cooking is precise and accentuates the well-chosen ingredients!

Cantine et Canons

This old crêperie in Morgat, once a sardine and tuna fishing port and part of Crozon, has been given a new lease of life by a young couple. In their convivial restaurant with an open kitchen, the short seasonal menu on the slate board sets the tone: red mullet and a rich, full-flavoured soup, pollock with butternut French toast, or peanut cream, chocolate ganache and sesame caramel. More than 100 wines are available by the glass at thirst-quenching prices: a trove of unusual combinations to look forward to!

La Tentation des Mets

Behind a deep-blue façade in the heart of Brest, this small contemporary bistro offers an authentically simple dining experience. A local chef who learned his trade in the city before launching his own establishment is at the helm. The ethos is straightforward: accessible dishes, well-chosen ingredients and straight-to-the-point traditional cuisine. At lunchtime, the simple set menu is spot on. In the evening, more premium ingredients feature in a more elaborate menu: cauliflower and almond velouté, perfectly cooked pollock, spinach, candied lemon and wasabi. A place that embodies the spirit o

Hinoki

Japanese, Sushi

€€€€

A bona fide Japanese restaurant in Brest! Hinoki is run by local lad, Xavier Pensec, a diehard fan of Japanese cuisine. Locally caught fish is handpicked with exquisite precision by the chef who reveals a genuine gift for the art of sushi and a deep-rooted understanding of the role of each ingredient. Sushi and maki are crafted in view of diners as the chef discreetly deploys his virtuoso talent in an experience that borders on ceremonial.

In this charming, typically Breton granite house in the Kerinou neighbourhood in the centre of Brest, the atmosphere is contemporary and elegant. Tuck into colourful contemporary cuisine, in which chef Philippe Le Bigot sometimes gives expression to influences from further afield, although he does also make good use of local producers (fish, poultry, vegetables etc). In summer, make a beeline for the peaceful and pleasant terrace.
