A great place to experience nature untamed – in a sensational location at an altitude of 1 550m! Under the direction of Benedikt Voss, the cuisine is well devised and very technically sophisticated; refined yet brimming with ideas, it steers well clear of gimmicks and ostentation. Only high-quality, mostly organic produce from Switzerland is used, as well as over 400 different herbs from their own garden. Opt for the alcohol-free drink pairings, which include house-made lemonades. Why not book one of the simple but well-kept guestrooms at the Kräuter Hotel Edelweiss, in which the restaurant is

Patrick Mahler and his team offer a unique culinary experience in the form of an exciting six- or eight-course set menu. Replete with intricate details, it blends classic, Japanese and Scandinavian elements. Amuse-bouches, such as shiitake dashi with a lovely hint of ginger, provide the perfect prelude. Hard to be beaten in terms of intensity and complexity of flavour is the combination of Miéral pigeon and truffle, accompanied by the wonderful depth of pigeon jus, as well as Albufera sauce and white cabbage foam. The charmingly laid-back second restaurant of the Hotel Balm maintains the same culinary ambition as the first. Expect expertly crafted, flavoursome regional dishes rooted in classic French cuisine, such as a delicate creamy fennel soup or succulent braised veal breast with vegetables and celeriac-potato mash. Diners can choose between à la carte options and a set menu. Friendly and adept service. Lovely terrace.

Dating back to 1497, this historical townhouse in Zug's old town is a lovely location. The friendly service and relaxed atmosphere here are appreciated by locals and tourists alike. Diners can choose from the selection of classics such as cordon bleu, Lammhacktätschli (lamb patties) and beef roulades, and there is also a seasonal menu. The tables on the gorgeous terrace in front of the building in the cobbled pedestrian area are coveted. Tip: Just a stone's throw away, the lakeside is perfect for a stroll.

Here, you won't want to miss out on the Austrian specialities such as Backhenderl (breaded fried chicken), Tafelspitz (prime boiled beef) or Topfenknödel (curd dumplings)! Available in a large or small portion, the Wiener schnitzel is a real highlight. Be sure to ask about the fish of the day, freshly caught from the adjacent Lake Zug. As well as the good food, diners can look forward to professional and attentive service in a cosy and stylish setting – the Austrian charm of the decor is the perfect match for the cuisine. In this gorgeous inn, a winning father-and-daughter team conjures up modern takes on classic dishes. They propose a surprise menu – slightly cheaper at lunchtime than in the evening. Incidentally, they smoke the salmon themselves. If you would like a vegetarian menu, please indicate this when making your reservation. Well-stocked wine list. Tip: Across the road, there is a terrace shaded by plane trees, right by Lake Zug and with a view of the Rigi – in fine weather the sunsets are magical!

This gorgeous building, which started out as an inn in 1708, boasts an idyllic location just a few metres from the shore of Zugersee. Run by a mother-and-son team, the restaurant serves classic cuisine, with fish from the lake playing an important role, for example. A fine dining menu is also available, and in summer the charcoal barbecue is put to work. The service is charming and professional, and the atmosphere in the dining area is cosy. The fantastic terrace is understandably popular – it's wonderful to sit in the shade of the large trees and drink in the view of the lake!

Since 1995, Susy and Markus Sager-Meyerhans have been the friendly faces behind this long-established restaurant with its roots in the 18C, when it was a tavern. In addition to cordial service, you can expect a hybrid of traditional and modern-meets-classic cuisine; at lunchtime there is a somewhat reduced menu. Outside you will find the Rosenterrasse and Rössligarten. Charming guestrooms are also available.
