The many positive adjectives that can be used to describe the Trafoier family can be summed up by simply saying that they are unique! Their individual talents come together in the natural and engaging welcome they offer guests, demonstrating a warmth and professionalism that is typical of the Kuppelrain experience. The family that run this restaurant occupying an old farmhouse with origins dating back to the 16C has a relationship with the region that goes back decades. In later years, the farm became an inn and it has now been run by the same family for five generations, all motivated by a desire to introduce their guests to the best local recipes and ingredients. Dishes include excellent fresh ravioli stuffed with cheese produced in the nearby valley and served (in summer) with tomato and basil sauce. An excellent wine list and the hotel’s warm and friendly ambience add to the appeal.

Although the focus here is on local ingredients (especially vegetables and meat such as goat kid and lamb raised on the restaurant’s own farm in the Senales valley) and freshwater fish, the menu also features the occasional Mediterranean speciality, such as the excellent braised aubergine tartare with burrata, focaccia and basil-flavoured olive oil. There’s also a hotel of the same name, which is housed in an attractive old building to the rear of the restauran
