This small family-run trattoria is nestled in the heart of Carnia and is an excellent example of mountain hospitality. Most of the ingredients used in the kitchen are sourced locally and are complemented by vegetables from their own organic garden. The chefs are passionate about tradition, which they present to guests with a delightful personal touch, as in the case of their cjarsons, the area's famous ravioli, the filling of which changes with the seasons. Those with a sweet tooth really must try the chocolate trilogy, one of the restaurant’s most successful and popular desserts.

Behind the small building that houses the bustling village bar, popular with locals, lies the true soul of the restaurant: a dining room with classic charm, featuring a fireplace that spreads warmth and the scent of wood in winter. The chef-owner carefully selects Friulian and seasonal ingredients, turning them into dishes that showcase the local area. The menu alternates between fish dishes and authentic flavours like those that characterise rich and comforting tagliatelle with duck ragout or golden “frico” served with steaming polenta. Beneath the bell tower of a pretty village, Al Grop welcomes guests into a classic setting brightened by original touches and the warmth of a crackling fireplace. The menu reflects the local flavours, with grilled meats, and asparagus in season, taking centre stage. There's a grand finale for those with a sweet tooth: the dessert trolley. San Michele

Modern Cuisine

€€

Situated next to the ruins of the old castle and the small church of San Michele, this 13C building, thought to have once housed a guardroom, is now home to a small restaurant serving regional, seasonal cuisine with a modern twist. During the week, the restaurant offers a lunchtime menu of top-quality snacks (the Venetian “cicchetti”), as well as a few “primi” and desserts.
