When we talk about a unique setting, we are usually referring to places such as this – a 14C medieval castle that has gradually been extended over the years to now include leisure facilities such as a museum, a stunning park, and even a casino. In this restaurant, with its pleasantly updated traditional ambience, attractive private dining rooms occupying its towers, and a delightful lakefront terrace, chef Javier Martínez impresses guests with creative cuisine that champions local ingredients and reinterprets recipes discovered in the castle’s archives, with a focus on a different century ever

This wonderful restaurant is the professional epicentre of chef Paco Pérez, who has proved unstoppable in taking his culinary concept from this small town out into the demanding international arena. His wife, Montse Serra, has played a key role in his career, working with him to take over this family inn overlooking the bay. After a major overhaul, it has become a renowned fine-dining hotspot and the perfect place to discover 21st-century Mediterranean cuisine, with the added bonus of a handful of guest suites. The concise à la carte features innovative dishes (half-plates are also available) t

Situated right on the seafront, where it enjoys good views of Portbou’s bay and beach, this family-run restaurant providing attentive service has been renovated to offer a clear gourmet focus. The cuisine, in the hands of young chefs Guillem Gavilan and Pau Jamas (the former is in charge of all things savoury, the latter desserts), showcases enthusiasm, technical expertise and creativity, with a leitmotif based around seasonal ingredients and popular dishes that combine meat and fish/seafood (a good example is the ‘Carn d'olla’, seafood bisque). Here, everything revolves around two unique tast

Laurent Lemal unveils the full gamut of his talents in this idyllic spot overlooking the harbour and Collioure, right by the water. His distinctive cuisine focused on local ingredients exalts the plentiful fare of Catalonia. The "signature 2025" dish features red onions from Toulouges, skilfully prepared as a mousse, ice cream and confit. The chef has a fondness for finely crafted surf and turf combinations, such as Mediterranean scorpion fish accompanied by "plural" courgettes with basil and a courgette flower with a brandade farce. Pastry chef Julie (Laurent Lemal's wife) whips up delicate d

There are some places, such as this restaurant occupying the former bar of the Hotel Empòrium, that can pass almost unnoticed compared with their more famous siblings (the award-winning and elegant Empòrium is also located here) due to the fact that they are simpler in style and more affordable to the public. Despite this, Bistrot 1965 is definitely a spot with its own personality. Its cuisine, which is also overseen by brothers Màrius and Joan Jordà (they alternate the cooking between them every week), is centred around a single fixed-price menu, to which you can also add more dishes from a l
