Steinheuers Restaurant
Classic French, Classic Cuisine · ★★ Michelin
€€€€
For years the dedicated Steinheuer family has been serving excellent food in a welcoming atmosphere; it's no wonder diners keep coming back for more. The interior is upscale and elegant, and the two set menus by Christian Binder, son-in-law of owner Hans Stefan Steinheuer, are exceptional. His pleasingly pared-back classical cooking lets the outstanding principal ingredient take centre stage, enhanced by just a few supporting elements to create a precise and clearly defined result. A harmonious combination of wonderfully developed flavours and thoughtfully placed contrasts is exemplified by th

PURS NEW NORDIC JAPANESE CUISINE
Fusion, Modern Cuisine · ★ Michelin
€€€€
Peter Fridén, of YOSO fame, has brought his "New Nordic Japanese Cuisine" to the 17C Alte Kanzlei, the interior of which has been tastefully designed by Axel Vervoordt. In a small side street adjacent to the boutique hotel PURS, this beautiful building houses a chic restaurant decorated in muted tones. Inside, the eye is drawn to the artwork on the walls and the open kitchen, visible through a glass sliding door, where Fridén brings together three different cuisines. Born in South Korea, he grew up in Sweden, and is schooled in the French culinary arts. His six-course tasting menu (vegetarian

Ai Pero

This is just the kind of Italian restaurant you always hope to find! In an invitingly lively and modern setting, diners sit at small wooden tables to savour fresh Italian dishes to an apt musical backdrop. The quality of the ingredients, the craftsmanship and flavours are all spot on – and the prices are fair, too. Excellent house-made pasta and pizzas from the wood-fired oven are, of course, an essential part of the offering. The beautiful Old Town is perfect for a post-prandial stroll. Good to know: From Tue to Sat, the kitchen is open throughout the day. Incidentally, Ai Pero belongs to PUR

Restaurant Brogsitter - Historisches Gasthaus Sanct Peter
Modern Cuisine, International · ★ Michelin
€€€€
The Historisches Gasthaus Sanct Peter was renowned for its wine back in the 13C, when it was the Hof- und Weingut des Kölner Domstifts (estate and vineyard of the Cologne Cathedral Chapter). In that regard, nothing has changed to this day, insofar as this characterful property is run by the Brogsitter family, who have a long tradition of winemaking. With numerous stints at top establishments to his name, chef Sebastian Baumann lives up to the standards of this traditional restaurant by demonstrating clear ambition. His distinctive style comes through in extremely flavourful dishes that are ful

This restaurant in the town centre has a trendy, chic interior and a window through which you can see the chefs at work in the centrally positioned kitchen. The large floor-to-ceiling windows look out onto Kirchplatz and Pfarrkirche St Peter. In the evening, the modern menu with subtle Asian influences comprises four regularly changing courses, for example, "tuna, veal, capers" or "venison, parsley root, mushrooms". Service starts for everyone at 6.30pm (no walk-ins). Decent, reasonably priced wine pairings. At lunchtime, only a dish of the day is served. Tip: There is a public car park 150m a

Restaurant Corona im Hotel zur Post
Mediterranean Cuisine, Farm to table · Bib

Sergio Corona's cooking is pure fun! His straightforward yet meticulous approach is always based on classical foundations and uses top-quality, exceptionally fresh ingredients. Dishes of note include saffron risotto with prawns and octopus, marinated salmon trout with rocket, and braised beef cheek, broad beans and Parmesan rösti. The two four-course menus, "Méditerranée" and "Corona", are priced very reasonably indeed. In the classically styled restaurant, hostess Kerstin Corona heads up a friendly, attentive and adept front-of-house team.

This attractive alternative to the fine dining restaurant also impresses with sophisticated cuisine made with excellent ingredients. The classic menu incorporates regional influences alongside international flavours. This results in a diverse range of dishes, such as pan-fried veal black pudding on hispi cabbage with fried onions and bacon, or tuna carpaccio with a soy and sesame vinaigrette and tuna tartare on a sushi rice base, as well as fine cuts of local rabbit on spring vegetables with gnocchi, or Zwiebelrostbraten (sirloin steak with crispy fried onions and gravy), Brussels sprouts and

Peter Fridén, who also heads up the kitchen at PURS in Andernach, calls his concept "Asian Comfort Food". Serving up sushi and sashimi, as well as dishes such as shoyu ramen, bao chasu and chicken yakitori, he is dedicated to showcasing Far Eastern flavours. Perfectly suited for sharing, these dishes can also be ordered online to take away. The dining space has a chic urban feel, featuring sleek modern design with a Far Eastern touch. The restaurant is located in the historical centre of Andernach right by the boutique hotel Am Ochsentor. Italian trattoria Ai Pero is next door.
