Hostess Daniela Jaun and chef Pascal Melliger (partners both professionally and privately) put their heart and soul into running this lovely restaurant. The entrance is somewhat hidden, with a steep staircase leading down into the elegant cellar space and its pretty vaulted ceiling. The chef-patron's cooking is modern and precise, showcasing select produce with an impeccable sense of elegance. A prime example is the succulent and flavoursome line-caught sea bass paired with an aromatic classic fish sauce, avocado purée and fried artichokes. You can choose a four-, five- or six-course format of

This restaurant is a little out of the way, but it's worth the journey to this remote location, knowing that a cosy, rustic-style space awaits diners, as well as a lovely terrace, which is very popular in summer! But let's not forget the cooking of owner Christoph Hunziker: his flavoursome dishes show strong ties to the region, follow the seasons, and are occasionally given a modern twist. You can choose à la carte or opt for the set menu ("Geniesser-Menu"). The service is charming – even the chef likes to get involved front of house. Tip: At lunchtime, the set menu is a bargain.

Löwen Messen - Die Land Brasserie

Set in a charming historic half-timbered house in the heart of Messen, Löwen has much to offer on the culinary front. The regionally and seasonally oriented Brasserie serves as an excellent alternative to Löwen Gourmet. The attractively presented dishes boast bold flavours – think "steak au poivre": beef fillet, creamy peppercorn sauce, a vegetable medley, sautéed potatoes and spring onions, or braised veal cheeks with petits pois à la française. These can be ordered à la carte, or as part of a four- or five-course set menu that showcases the kitchen's ambition. At lunchtime, there is also a g

Steeped in tradition, this inn housed in a handsome building from 1822 presents an appealing two-in-one concept: Die Land Brasserie and Löwen Gourmet. Under the direction of Jonas Ingold, the latter serves an eight-course set menu for a maximum of 10 diners in the evening. A vegetarian version is also available. Great emphasis is placed on seasonality, with many ingredients sourced from the local region. Service is very friendly and adept. In summer, tables on the tranquil terrace to the rear of the building, which overlooks the old village church, are coveted. For a pleasingly down-to-earth a
