The personable chef cooks over the flames in front of you while demonstrating an understanding that less is often more. That means dishes where finely balanced accompaniments marry well with their prime central ingredients, such as Indonesian butter with Orkney scallops.

Located at the heart of a pretty little stone-built hamlet, this 18th-century pub has a quirky, cottage-like charm, with low ceilings, exposed brickwork and an open fire in the bar. In the summer months, the large tiered terrace and garden are a great place to enjoy an appealingly straightforward menu listing modern British dishes alongside some pub classics.
