El Portal de Echaurren
Creative, Modern Cuisine · ★★ Michelin

Francis Paniego exudes honesty, sincerity, passion and a love for his profession and his family legacy, which sees him and his brother Chefe (maître d' and sommelier) as the fifth generation in charge of this restaurant that has been in business for over a century. Here, you will discover a reinterpretation of the chef’s roots but from a more creative perspective, to which he brings his exceptional technical skill to bear on the ingredients he uses (such as offal) that elevates the palate to new heights. Choose between two tasting menus, Turza and Usaya, on which dishes are grouped into sequen

Nublo
Modern Cuisine · ★ Michelin
€€€€
Occupying a 16th-century aristocratic property, Nublo is much more than just a restaurant. In fact, it has brought the gastronomic spotlight back to a town famous as the location for the largest concentration of century-old wine cellars in the world!Following an extensive interior design makeover, the restaurant has opted not to hide the scars of age, instead retaining spaces and dining rooms with lots of personality, such as the internal patio where you can see the goddess Nublo (at night, her transparent image is transposed onto a large ‘holy veil’). Here, chef Miguel Caño, who once worked a

Alejandro Serrano
Modern Cuisine · ★ Michelin

A restaurant that really leaves an impression thanks to its highly personalised working philosophy which is based around three core concepts: flavour, feeling and aesthetics. Here, chef Alejandro Serrano, who decided to return to his native Miranda de Ebro having trained at the Basque Culinary Center in Bilbao and in renowned restaurants such as Azurmendi, Coque, and DiverXO, shows that you can go against the tide and still succeed. In his elegantly contemporary eatery, enjoy dishes with a surprising focus on a traditional regional concept the chef refers to as “El Mar de Castilla” (in days go

Venta Moncalvillo
Modern Cuisine · ★★ Michelin

A blacksmith in the kitchen? Chef Ignacio Echapresto proves that anything is possible, because one day he decided to change his profession and... He succeeded in leaving the anvil behind in favour of the cooker! Here, in a tiny village, the chef and his brother (Carlos, who runs the dining room and the wine cellar) have restructured the proposal from a sustainability perspective to give more prominence to the vegetable garden, which is why the experience starts with a tour of it (also, before moving on to the dining room, the chef offers out some snacks). You'll find comfortable spaces overloo

La Vasca
Traditional Cuisine · Bib
€€
A gastronomic institution in the city that opened its doors in 1926 and has now been run by three generations of the same family. Located on the first floor of a 19C building, it features a classic-contemporary dining room which is accessed via a staircase lined with old photos of the restaurant and its founder, Ángela Bilbao, who came here from a village in Vizcaya province with her husband, a native of Burgos, and set up the original “casa de comidas”. Here, you can enjoy time-honoured cooking that features game, wild mushrooms in season, traditional offal dishes, cod, roast baby lamb etc.

A modern and contemporary restaurant that comes as quite a surprise in this village anchored at the foot of a walled castle-fortress with streets steeped in history and buildings fronted by beautiful stone façades. In this eclectic and unexpected setting, the modern interior, dominated by the contrasts between red and white, features numerous references to wine production, providing the backdrop for cuisine with a strong Rioja flavour that combines typical recipes such as “Patorrillo a la Riojana” (lamb’s tripe and trotters) with other more contemporary-style dishes. An interesting gastronomic

Echaurren Tradición

The meticulously appointed dining room here can be considered a temple of traditional Rioja cooking thanks to its respect for flavour and dishes prepared with the minutest of detail. The extensive à la carte, featuring the signature dishes of both Francis Paniego and his mother, is complemented by a daily menu (midweek only) plus a tasting option. We can definitely recommend the famous soft and creamy croquettes, the prawn carpaccio, the lightly battered hake confit (cooked at 45°C), and the Cameros cheese on toast with apple.

A restaurant with a touch of charm? This one has it in spades; in fact... it has restored a beautiful 17th century wine cellar! Here they see gastronomy as a pleasure to be shared and that is their priority, always highlighting the goodness of Rioja cuisine. In their well-kept dining rooms, all with a rustic feel, they offer a traditional menu, with modern touches and interesting suggestions of the day. We particularly liked the slow-cooked egg and their deliciously tender oxtail, stewed and shredded!
