Hubert Wallner

Modern Cuisine, Innovative · ★ Michelin

€€€€

Here, the magic starts with the lakeside setting: right by Wörthersee, the magnificent terrace affords gorgeous sunsets on balmy summer evenings. The interior has an upscale feel, with modern and elegant decor incorporating light, warm tones. In the kitchen, chef-patron Hubert Wallner draws inspiration from the Alpine region and gives his creativity free rein, exemplified in his "Germknödel 2.0" – a delicate yet bold foie gras terrine crowned with an aromatic yeast espuma and served with a scoop of Reindling ice cream. There are two set menus comprising five to nine "Stationen" – individual di

Farm to table

The fantastic lakeside location – right by Wörthersee – means the terrace is a popular spot in summer, but sitting inside is also pleasant: the atmosphere is chic and nicely laid-back, and the tables by the windows boast a wonderful view of the lake. Attentive, seasoned staff serve up the delicious seasonal cuisine incorporating many regional ingredients. Be sure to try the handmade cheese and meat noodles. The fish of the day is also highly recommended. And for dessert, perhaps some apricot dumplings? The restaurant is located in the aenea hotel.

George & Marie Skybar

Contemporary

€€€

Already known for his fine dining restaurant in Maria Wörth, Hubert Wallner has created this terrific spot on the fifth floor of the Sparkasse bank building. The lively, modern bar area includes a wonderful roof terrace. In addition to refined cocktails, they serve a small menu of bar snacks, and a set menu designed for sharing, with delicious dishes such as "'Acquerello truffle risotto', quail breast, watercress" or "cauliflower, curry, macadamia nut, citrus". On the ground floor, there is also a café-bistro that has a simpler menu of breakfast options, cakes, bowls and pasta dishes.

Regional Cuisine, Fusion

€€€

In the heart of Klagenfurt, Stefanie Falkenberg and Fabian Kautz welcome you to their charming little restaurant with vaulted ceilings and a friendly atmosphere. Courtesy of the restaurateur couple, guests enjoy cordial and attentive service as they tuck into flavoursome and varied cuisine. The food is served in the form of a three- to five-course set menu that changes monthly and is prepared with fresh seasonal ingredients, some from the region. The chef likes to come out of his kitchen and present his dishes to diners. On request, there is a wine pairing to match the food or, alternatively,

Dolce Vita

Mediterranean Cuisine

€€€

In this compact restaurant in the city centre, you feel a bit like you are on holiday when you taste the Mediterranean cuisine that leans into fish, seafood, house-made pasta and risotto (they do also serve meat). The ingredients take centre stage, with a focus on premium quality, and all of the fish is wild caught. Each dish boils down to just a few components, eg the excellent meagre is accompanied by grilled courgettes and fluffy mashed potatoes; the delicate gnocchi are harmoniously complemented by clams in a white wine broth. In the evening, an ambitious surprise menu comprising five, sev
