Dining

La Bastide by Andrea Calstier

French · ★ Michelin

$$$$

Head to this modern farmhouse in Westchester where a soothing design perfectly complements sweeping views of the surrounding pastoral landscape. Chef Andrea Calstier and General Manager Elena Oliver bring warmth and polish to an intimate dining room with only a handful of tables, all centered around a tasting menu deeply inspired by the south of France and the chef’s upbringing in Marseille. The cooking blends contemporary technique with Provençal soul, whether in a delicate socca topped with chickpeas and preserved lemon, or a refined interpretation of bouillabaisse rich with saffron and seaf

Blue Hill at Stone Barns

American, Contemporary · ★★ Michelin

$$$$

The passion of Chef Dan Barber is at the core of everything here, where a meal is a true experience that uniquely knits together his vision of improving our foodways, the grit of utilizing the land to provide sustenance, and luxurious touches like crisped linens and fine crystal.A procession of dramatically presented, farm-fresh seasonal produce kicks off the meal and may include freshly plucked radishes with browned butter, Hakurei turnips dressed with poppy seeds, and morsels of dried honeypatch squash. While the focus is plant-based, heartier compositions may reveal roasted, retired dairy c

The Inn at Pound Ridge

American, American Contemporary

$$$$

This warm and inviting Victorian-style inn exemplifies country charm. After a glimpse of the valet line and attractive white clapboard façade, it’s quite obvious that this restaurant is for a pedigreed crowd. Manicured gardens complete the picture. The mien may be rustic, but the menu is utterly contemporary. It features a veritable hit list of Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s greatest dishes, albeit in tweaked formats. The classic tuna ribbons from the chef's eponymous Manhattan outpost inspires this kitchen's tuna tartare with avocado, ginger-soy sauce, and chili oil. Crisp, pan-roasted salmon is

Cenadou

French

$$$$

Named after the Provençal word for “dining room,” Cenadou is warm and welcoming with crisp white walls, dark wood tables and royal blue chairs. Large windows line the room, framing views of the lush greenery just outside. In fact, this North Salem address is home to two enticing spots, with sibling La Bastide located one level down. Expect French bistro classics with a modern, Provence-inspired update, as in poached vegetables with a warm aioli emulsion or rack of lamb over a smoked eggplant purée with olive tapenade, lamb jus and herb oil. Even dessert offers a twist on tradition with baba au

OKO Rye

Asian, Japanese

$$$

Despite all signs, this isn't so much a Japanese haunt as much as it is the chef's own interpretation of the same nation's cuisine. The light-filled space hums with an attractive crowd, including locals who convene—under a lofty ceiling—at the welcoming bar. If that doesn't scream neighborhood jewel, an open kitchen offering creative bites is sure to fill the bill. This contemporary Asian restaurant features everything from nigiri, sashimi and handrolls to tempura and hot dishes. Madeira-miso black cod as well as crab-and-pork dumplings are favorites; but those who choose the omakase may enjoy

Purdy's Farmer & the Fish

Seafood, American

$$$

Plenty of restaurants claim a farm-to-table philosophy, but Purdy’s Farmer & the Fish truly lives it. Set beside its own four-acre farm in North Salem, this charming white farmhouse overlooks the fields that supply much of the kitchen’s produce, herbs, berries and honey. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, while the cooking remains simple, seasonal and very rooted in ingredient quality. A hearty clam chowder packed with fresh shellfish, potatoes and bacon highlights the kitchen’s restraint, and a lobster roll filled with generous chunks of sweet claw and tail meat wisely keeps the focus o

Badageoni

Central Asian, Regional Cuisine

Mount Kisco locals pack this impossibly delicious Georgian "kitchen" as well as the new culinary dialect that accompanies it. This is a simple, welcoming dining room with a trestle-like ceiling, soft Edison light bulbs and dark wood bar. There are a few must-orders, including the khachapuri, a boat-shaped bread loaded with melted cheese and a raw egg yolk in the center that's mixed together for a sinfully good treat. Another go-to includes the ground lamb kebabs wrapped in lavash sided by house-made French fries.

Osteria Padre Pio

Italian, Campanian

$$$

Naming a restaurant after a saintly miracle worker is a bold move but there's a reason why locals keep coming back. Chef Andrea Ingenito is onto something, and is supremely dedicated to offering a true Campanian experience to guests. The interior is inviting and charming, matched only by the warm hospitality and carefully crafted dishes. Nearly everything is made from scratch here, where each table is given a beautiful wooden board loaded with room-temperature caponatina and plenty of house-made focaccia. It's tempting, but but don't fill up, and don't skip the specials. From the baked corvina
